Bluelight Posted July 22, 2016 Author Posted July 22, 2016 Did Bluelights post get removed from this thread? I just got an email notice of a response to this there thanksh his response incorporated in the email. Maybe I'm in the wrong place? Athese pe, I am one that is certainly appreciative of his input so far, mostly because he has helped me understand a lot of the technical matters that I have no knowledge of. Yep.. Just like I figured and I was told that I can't talk about "that thing that happened to me" or it would happen again! Thanks for the kind words. I do appreciate it. Another thing I was told in PM from a mod is that supposedly they are working on fixing performance issues in 2.5. That was the only answer I got from him when I asked him personally to respond here about these performance problems. I shouldn't have to relay that why couldn't he post it himself here? So it's very unfortunate how we are being treated.. I too am put off by it. The fact that we know mods are here but they refuse to chime in just says a lot IMO. Fakum Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 Well,, I'm glad to see your not banned. I'm a level headed guy, I personally didn't see any issue with anything you have stated, as long as your not lying about anything, I don't see any issues. Constructive criticism can be healthy. I don't know much about the technical side of things, all I know is I love this Sim and many of the modules, and Id like to be supportive. If there are performance issues, its nice for people like me to be able to come in here and read about it from a perspective that I can actually understand. I think its great that knowledgeable people can contribute to the refinement and resolve. I wish I had the aptitude to contribute myself. I appreciate the time people take out of their lives to help those of us that don't really know how to manage problems such as these. I always think it must be my computer! Its nice to know its not always the case so I don't waste days trying to fix something that's not broke. dburne Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 There are some missions in 1.5 that are just not optimized currently very well. The KA-50 Convoy Hunt single mission is a good example. Also I just upgraded from a GTX 970 to a GTX 1080, fps in this mission did not increase one bit. Other missions, and especially in DCS2, nice performance increase. That Convoy Hunt mission, starts out with GPU usage hovering around 20%, and framerates in the low 20's. It gradually increases to around 50 fps about middle of the mission, GPU usage still below 50%. I am sure with the integration to the new Edge engine, there are more optimizations that will be done, even the terrain is going to be updated to T4 as well versus T3 as I understand. Hopefully when things merge into DCS 2.5 things will balance out a little better. Goldsmack Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Iv tried everything in every suggestion to alleviate this problem and none of it had made one bit of difference.....I don't have all the time in the world to spend on trying every little "trick" to get this sim working properly. Iv reinstalled, Repaired, rolled back drivers, tried every combination of gfx setting, settings that worked perfectly fine for the last 3 months don't, and even with everything on low the FPS plummet when looking towards towns. Why some have this issue and others do not I don't know but it sounds like its effecting more then a few people. This is disheartening, I would like to know if this issue has even been made aware and is at least being looked into...I can always just play Nevada but I still like to fly the Caucuses map. secret1962 Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 All of a sudden people reporting problems I had since 1.5... you're not alone. My solution to alleviate the problem was getting 16gb RAM and lowering some settings... but that doesn't really fix it.

BitMaster Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 totally OT, but reading those SIGs in DCS Forum makes me wanna believe we have a fairly large number of overclockers among us, driven by the need to squeeze every last Hertz out of the Processor for that last fps and to not have a stutter experience :) Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Sapphire Nitro+ 7800XT - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus XG27ACG QHD 180Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X

Hadwell Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 What's weird, I use a GTX780, and I get a minimum of 30 FPS, average of 70 fps, and up to 110 fps, and no studdering... where I have issues, and this has only been since i got a G-Sync monitor, shadowplay video recording seems really low fps, even though it's like 60+ while I'm playing...or it could just be I'm so used to G-sync now, that when i watch a video without it, it just looks low fps... Also, and I think this is a limitation of my videocard, I can't record at 60 fps with shadowplay.... My youtube channel Remember: the fun is in the fight, not the kill, so say NO! to the AIM-120. Bluelight Posted August 5, 2016 Author Posted August 5, 2016 I recently got some 1/3 fps loss but could easily fix it with deleting options.lua :) Fixed it quick for me. Hey I saw in another thread where you guys were talking about deleting the options file.. does that only get rid of the graphical settings and such so you start from default or does it get rid of key bindings also? I would like to know. Also, now that you have messed around with 1.5.4 for a while, do you recommend staying with 1.5.3 still or is 1.5.4 actually better? I can't afford anymore FPS hits using VR so I haven't updated (or played) since 1.5.4 came out but would like to try again. Art-J Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 ^ Removing it resets all game settings (video, audio, gamepplay, special etc.) apart from controller assignments (which are stored elsewhere). So it's not a big deal, You turn things back on within two or three minutes and are ready to go. As for 1.5.3 vs 1.5.4 - I guess it depends on planes You fly. For example, for me, the flight model improvements of MiG-21 introduced in 5.4 were so massive and important that I could not go back to previous version no matter what fps it offered to me (by the way, on my PC performance of both versions has been the same anyway). i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.

bxlplk Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Just checking in. Having the same problem with the UH1 Harbor Tour (and other areas). Looking out over the water is fine, but as soon as I look left toward the town it starts to judder. It got so bad at some points that I actually got black bars on the leading edge of my vision. CPU usage is at 40-60% for most of it. I can't tell on the GPU usage, unfortunately, because my AMD card doesn't report utilization properly. Tried the lowest settings and still unplayable. Deleting options.lua did nothing. It's definitely a bummer, though, because 95% of the map is perfectly playable. I flew threw the UN Pilot career mission for a good hour without any trouble. But when I got to the LZ the chunking got so bad I botched the landing. Well, maybe I would have crashed anyway, but it certainly didn't help. So now I'm left with the possibility of playing missions, with a creeping anxiety that it's going to end in disaster if I ever get near a problem area. The contrast between these areas and the rest of the map is nuts. I've been running 4x MSAA, and high textures and have had no problems. Hit one of these towns, and there isn't any setting that they work at. What I'd like to know: a) What's the time line to fix it? Or, if not a time-on-the-clock, what release is it expected to be fixed? b) What's the min spec to not have this problem right at this moment? I've got one vote for a 980ti from this thread, but I'd like to know about the 1070. Specs: i5-4690 R9 390 16 GB RAM

bxlplk Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Bluelight -- I just realized this isn't a VR-thread. I'm having this problem with my Vive. 2D DCS has always worked fine. But, still, it's weird because plenty of people are saying they have no trouble, so something is up.
will- Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 No hardware will fix this issue you have posted about losing fps when looking in certain areas. This has been in the game since I started playing. Just getting to your point of people telling to adjust your settings just masks the issue. Off topic: I get my fps cut down to 8-30fps while streaming using the f-15c in tws mode after 20-30mins. Sure I can stop streaming and my 100fos gets then only cut to 20-30, but it's not going to change till the game is fixed... if/when who knows. But, still, it's weird because plenty of people are saying they have no trouble, so something is up. The issue talked about here mainly effects VR even though I demonstrated it in 2D. The main people saying they have no trouble are people playing 2D and who don't realize how their framerate is dropping, how improperly their hardware is being utilized, or how to measure any of it. Of course this depends on where on the map it's tested and alot of factors but i can tell u that anybody using the Vive who says they get 90fps all the time everywhere is full of it. It is not possible no matter what settings or hardware you have. They may be mostly 90/45fps and don't realize they are in reprojection most of the time but even then, certain heavy towns drop the framerate to 30 and starts to judder and become unplayable. AJaromir Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 (edited) Bluelight, the problem is the 1.5 uses only 2 CPU cores or threads max. Just wait for version 2.5. There is a lot of big optimalization upgrades. 2.5 will be better because it will be upgraded 2.0 which right now have much better optimalisation than 1.5 I have 1080 and in 2.0 it have load up to 95% But the bigger problem is just CPU load which is limited by game core engine.
