It's starting to look an airplane anyway. There's a 'few' more things that need fixing/touching up. At least I got it to work in the ED ModelViewer tool. Apprehensive on the texturing bit. No idea where to start and this unwrap UV thingy is abracadabra to me. Does anybody work with Quixel and does that ease the pain of texturing compared to i.e. 3DS stock UVW tools?

Looking good! I've never found a way to expedite the unwrap process beyond the default Max tools. It seems like aircraft shapes aren't planned for when they make plugins.

Looking good.

With Quixel you still need to unwrap the model for it to work. It's like Photoshop but in 3D.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Deal!

It may take a while because this has taken far longer than I anticipated. PM inbound shortly.

Thx.

Nice start you got there. Unwrapping complex meshes is always a battle between alignment for easier painting vs. minimizing stretch.

As for where to start, finding good tutorials, for anything, is lots of prospecting through hundreds of absolutely horrible, in both quality and info, videos to find the nuggets of good. :)

Below I've linked to a couple of good videos.

The 3rd video is a model and uv tutorial. The unwrap starts at 49 minute mark.

As for tools, you may want to check out textools. It looks like it's got some pretty nifty features. I'll probably check it out at some point.

Thanks Fracture,

I've seen those videos before (check out arrimus 3D as well) and they are excellent. I'm looking for help on fixing errors in the UV mapping but there doesn't seem to be anything available (either on video or in forums)...

"Flipped UVW Faces" in XView. I have a whole bunch of them.

In the Edit UV interface I should be able to mirror and/or flip them (polygons) so that they have the same 'orientation' like the rest of them (I'm not talking about normals... just UV's). I'm doing something wrong, obviously, but I can't seem to fix it no matter what I do. I have posted about this months ago and nobody knows what to do (like the rest of the Internet...).

It's probably the angle it's getting unwrapped. Show some screen shots.
