A couple of questions about the MiG-21

I know that this isn't the correct thread for MiG-21 questions, but I couldn't find the MiG-21 thread.

1. I've read through through some of the posts and have come to the conclusion that the GUV-8700 gun pod was not implemented into the sim. Is this correct?

2. I took my first flight in the Fishbed this morning. I wanted to see how well she climbs, so I pulled up into the near vertical, climbed to about 35K ft., pushed the nose over and started to level out. When I did this, the engine shut down. I don't know if it flamed out or what happened. I wasn't able to get it started again. What caused this problem?

I don't think you can have gun pods...

The engine flameout is probably because of negative G and/or too low airspeed. Not to worry though, there's a switch to restart the engine in the air :)

1. There is a gunpod, but I forgot which one. GUV-8700 sounds unfamiliar to me.

2. Flameout due to negative G. The Fishbed really doesn't like negative G and 0 G are even worse.

Link to restart the engine.

The manual emergency procedures. Good read at least once. Mig-21 is an advanced module. It is not easy to learn to fly with him. Do not try to suppress lever in flight.

Beware of negative G. engine you can drop off if you fly long afterburner. Turbulence air flow etc.

After googling it and seeing that guv8700 has 3 Gatling guns on it I think this item needs to be added to the top of the DCS wish list.

It is in DCS already for years now, as one of the gunpods Mi-8 can use. UPK-23 is, however, simply better against just about every target type.

Wishlist: F-4E Block 53 +, MiG-27K, Su-17M3 or M4, AH-1F or W circa 80s or early 90s, J35 Draken, Kfir C7, Mirage III/V

Practical engine limits:

Never exceed 1250 km/h indicated or Mach 2.1 indicated.

Don't go 0 G for more than 1 or 2 seconds, negative G no more than 10 seconds.

To restart, press E and dive if possible. If you flame out at high altitude it won't restart until you get down to ~20k feet. Press E again once it's going. If it dies from over speeding you can usually restart it without losing altitude. If you flame out at low altitude and low speed... RIP.

DCS modules are built up to a spec, not down to a schedule.

You can actually exceed Mach 2.1 by at least 100kph, you have to control the nose cone manually and set it to 40%. This prevents the engine from flaming out by too much air, because the air inlets aren't as open as in auto mode.

Yeah, but it's not worth the flameout risk IMO, not to mention the extra fuel consumption.

I can easily get to M2.15ish without touching the nose cone.

sure, I just found it out two days ago while doing a speed test. In combat, so much fuel consumption is of course not effective.

What manual?

The manual that comes with the MiG-21. It's located in your DCS Folder under Mods/aircraft/MiG-21/doc
