Just got the module. First impressions! She seems super easy to fly, really nice and stable. Really interesting effect once you get some speed and start to turn.

Takeoffs and landing had me a little worried from what i read but had no issues whatsoever on the free flight scenario, Straight up and off(light on the wheels and back right cyclic etc of course) . Ground effect hovers are great and hovers in general are like relaxing on the cough with a cup of tea. Cant wait to check out sling loads.

Gonna be hours of fun with this one! One long manual too and ive just covered the basic aerodynamics so i got a lot to go.

not the "bee's knees" as I would like to see more choppers from Belsimtek

But it's IMHO still the current pinnacle of DCS helo modelling. Which kind of implies that the _next_ pinnacle, namely the BST Hind, will be even more awesome ;):D

I will auto buy instantly.... love the mi8 single player campaign. I imagine mi24 will be just like that but with a little extra on top. It is a fast attack helicopter with good ability to use rockets and gunpods.

i would say they compliment each other very well..

the mi-8 teaches Huey pilots patience :) and corrects some bad habits they may have picked up

the huey teaches mi-8 pilots how to fly helicopters with no control delay..

so i would start in hueys :)

Yep. Somebody transitioning from fixed wing to Helo should always start with the Huey IMO.

DCS modules are built up to a spec, not down to a schedule.

In order to utilize a system to your advantage, you must know how it works.

+1

Certainly a purchase at the earliest opportunity. To get as comprehensively and well modelled Hind as this is would be one of my simming dreams fulfilled.

There are threads that discuss differences between those two. I've got a Mi-8 first, spent a lot of time flying it, then got the Huey and after few hours with it I came back to Mi-8. Since than Huey sits for some other time in hangar. IMO it depends mostly on personal preferences, nostalgia, ethetics, etc.. Technically both are great modules.

You are exactly right. I am a Huey fan. I flew in them in the early 80's in the military. I find it feels better to me than the Mi8, and I can use it more effectively. I cannot do much of anything with the Mi8. I agree that both are wonderful modules and I'm glad I own them. But I'm much more of a Huey fan. And I also really enjoy the Gazelle, but a lot of folks don't care for it much.

So yes.....It's very much a personal preference thing.

I fly both the MI8 and the Huey. To me the Huey is much better in the guns and rockets role(can't hit the broad side of a barn in the MI8. But for long distance flights and ease of flying the MI8 is awesome (MI8 is just comfortable to fly).

I usually use the Mi-8 for troop insertions and giving them CAS when needed. But in order to survive the fire support part, one really has to stay at standoff range since the chopper is lightly armored and therefore easily damaged. However, that taken into account I actually find her an excellent fire platform, because she can carry a sizable amount of armament without problems

I'm really enjoying her now too. I've been flying the Huey a fair amount, and now going through the learning curve with this bird.

Been on the fence for a while but finally pulled the trigger on the MI-8!

With the exception of the 2 drunk pilots that came with it ( they always look like they're nodding off) I'm very happy.

mi8 overpowers any ground troop as you start littering them with rockets at 2km with large area strikes. zu 23 is its closest competitor. anything above it is more dangerous and counters a mi8
