jojo Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 That's why bug report without track are of little use. We need track to asses relative angle, range, missile's engine burning or not... Azrayen Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 Whisper, I was just providing "why" you were right ;) Sorry if not felt that way.
Dugong Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 Dammit .... Yes, I know it's not about the missile type ... I'm just saying it's designed (downward looking detection device) for detecting ground-based missiles, and having air to air missiles not detected is probably most of the time normal behaviour (BFM mostly include turning into your opponent, which means he will be on your upward hemisphere) and should not be reported as a bug. This is misleading, it is not a ground only device. This is like saying if you peak out of your letterbox you can only see the floor! the sensors can see to the horizon in the same plain as the wing
Whisper Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 (edited) This is misleading, it is not a ground only device. This is like saying if you peak out of your letterbox you can only see the floor! the sensors can see to the horizon in the same plain as the wing Again, it was designed for IR SAM threats. There's nothing misleading there, ofc it can detect anything provided it's presented in the correct parameters, but the people who built this had the IR SAM threat in mind, hence why they built it detecting in the downward hemisphere of the aircraft. . See here : https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=177756 Anyway, like jojo said, a bug report about it will necessitate an acmi file to check it. @Azrayen : Roger that, I understood it the wrong way, sorry for getting touchy :) Edited December 5, 2016 by Whisper Whisper of old OFP & C6 forums, now Kalbuth. grunf Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 Here's a short track showing wrong azimuth, more than 90 degrees off. First missile is detected 43s after the start of the track. Missiles are AIM-9P fired from the F-5E.ddm test.trk
zaelu Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 This is misleading, it is not a ground only device. This is like saying if you peak out of your letterbox you can only see the floor! the sensors can see to the horizon in the same plain as the wing What is misleading? The fact that in reality the device is mounted only on the D model, the plane that has ground attack role? I wouldn't take it as a "misleading" rather more like a "hint" or a "clue". I hope it sees also the sun as "a launch" as you turn circles with an enemy. Maybe then it will be clear why it's not working as people imagined. M2KC is not F35. jojo Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 It's used on both Mirage 2000D and N. It's said to be "dual color" IR sensor. I bet it's to lower false alarm rate. A system that mistakes the sun for SAM would have a too high false alarm rate. Mirage fanatic ! zaelu Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 I am curious how it's done in real life such separation. I would input the position of the sun into INS GPS etc and just filter out alarms made in that area. Robin_Hood Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Possibly the color/intensity/temperature/spectrum or something of the sun doesn't match that of a missile exhaust. 2nd French Fighter Squadron

sunski34 Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 Just a question, is DDM working on 1.5.5 update 3 release version ? I tried with russian manpad, no alarm... and the missile hit me. If it works can I have a little explanation how to do?

All you have to do is turn it on. Monkey21 Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 I'm still having issues with the D2M, the modules appear to be fitted to the pylons, and they are definitely selected in the mission editor, however the switch in the cockpit by the right knee now does nothing. No indicator light comes on, and I get no warning from Strela launches that are within the cones of detection. Is there an additional step I'm missing?
CrashO Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 Are you flying in 2.0 by any chance? (the 2.0 that has not gotten any updates by ED the last 3 months :) )
Monkey21 Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 Are you flying in 2.0 by any chance? (the 2.0 that has not gotten any updates by ED the last 3 months :) ) No, 1.5.6 OB although it happens in 1.5.5 stable as well. Haven't tried 2.0 yet.

I believe that strelas missiles are bugged since not even the A-10C can detect their launch. Monkey21 Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 Seems not to work with Tors, Osas or Chaparrals from some quick testing, I've repaired my game and disabled all mods, still doesn't appear to be working. To be clear, this is a single player custom mission with the checkbox disallowing the modules to be fitted not checked, and I'm happy to create a video showing my problem if that would help?
