Have a buddy that has not played air combat sims in awhile.

He is looking to purchase new independent joystick / throttle setup for a left-handed guy.

What is out there to purchase that is good to great quality?

Does the Warthog combo support left-handed people?

T16000 stick supports left hand use. I'm yet to see a throttle that does though.

As a lefty flying sims for two decades unrepentantly with left hand, I just got used to using right handed sticks with left hand. At least Extreme 3D pro and MS Sidewinder FFB2 work quite OK this way.

Never heard of a lefty friendly off the shelf throttle though.

I wonder if real world pilots have the benefit of a left hand stick? I expect they are required to adapt their technique to the aircraft, and no aircraft is adaptable?

Frankly I am amazed that no one produces a dedicated lefty HOTAS. There must be a demand for it, and making a mirror image stick can't be that huge an undertaking can it?

I suppose tooling for different production for a product that is already a niche within a niche isn't too attractive for manufacturers.

Some aircraft does seem to have left hand stick positions for co-pilot but, overall however, a lefty becoming a real life pilot has to deal with it and fly with right hand in majority of planes as far as I know.

OK I am NOT being a smart ass...however, he needs to do what Lefties / Southpaws do in real life...get used to it. They don't have left / right hand sticks in the real planes...wait, that's not true, Airbus has a FBW system and the stick is outboard left and right so the copilot has to fly with his right hand and the pilot flies with his left....

One advantage I see him having is if he flies with right hand he'll have an easier time using the mouse left handed...there are left handed mouses I believe.

If he has the money go with a warthog.

It's already a small pool of people that buy this stuff. With the advent of cheaper 3D printing, maybe it's doable (as seen by VPC). But those are bespoke higher-end sticks. I can't imagine TM or Logitech retooling to accommodate left handed players when they dont' do it IRL.

Lefties exist in military aviation at higher rates than in the general population (myself included); I'm sure being right-brained has something to do with it. However, we all learned how to fly right-handed from day one, as there are no left-handed aircraft (though the left seat in a multi-engine aircraft like a C-130 is oriented to a lefty).

I recommend biting the proverbial bullet and learning how to fly right handed. It really isn't that bad once you get used to it. I can't even imagine the other way anymore.

I haven't done the process for the throttle and not sure if I'm going to, but I'm about to start supplying left hand Warthog grips as a conversion.

If VKB "Kosmosima" grip became reality this will increase the offer of grips for left hands persons

- besides the announced VirPil T-50 grip - for more than "entry level" grips of Saitek Cyborg, CH Flightstick and T.1600M.

The popularity or "space sim" and their "HOSAS" 6DOF pilotage concept make more interesting for manufactures invest in make left hand grips.

I forced myself to learn how to fly with my right hand. So now I can control the stick with both hands. It's comes in 'handy' when I need a rest.
