Kev2go Posted May 7, 2017 Posted May 7, 2017 (edited) I've gone from Sli 970's to a single 1080 and I'm getting 60 fps at 3k with all settings on high. Even at nights flying over the Vegas city lights with traffic and clouds. If you have been thinking of then do it, amazing performance Ed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk on empty map or small mission yes. Try a big mission with lots of assets. in the First F5E aggressor mission for EG At the Nellis AFB airport i got like 30-35 FPS at 1440p res while taxing for take off. it did not jump up to 50-60 ish until i got farther from the airport and away from all those assets. Granted im using a monitor thas 144HZ refresh, i hear runing a higher refresh rate does impact GPu performance a bit. Kev2go Posted May 7, 2017 Posted May 7, 2017 (edited) actually more to the topic at hand, at this point i wouldn't recommend getting a 1080 anymore since within a few months the next cycle of cards are coming around. The refreshed GtX 2000 series. Unless of course you want to buy a pre-owned card, or a surplus 1080 to save a couple $$ If you don't want to wait for the 2000 ( refresh of the pascal), alternately may as well buy the 1080Ti instead. Its really not that much more expensive than the 1080 ( at least compared to the prices when it was still a fresh card), but the performance is like a 30% jump or so. The higer resolution and refresh rate will impact your fps, I use one monitor at 1080p and my frames are great even on my 980 actually more to the topic at hand, at this point i wouldn't recommend getting a 1080 anymore since within a few months the next cycle of cards are coming around. Demon_ Posted May 7, 2017 Posted May 7, 2017 You certainly don't need a GTX 1080 to run a 1080 monitor. A GTX 1070 can run 3 of those. Upgrade the video card for one generation is useless. As Koriel said, who suggests a GTX 1080 without knowing the resolution used? Attache ta tuque avec d'la broche.

I will be upgrading the monitor hopefully, and also going for VR at some point, but the main reason for me was the VRAM 4 - 8 is a big step Forum rules - DCS Crashing? Going to see what it is like over the week and give it a good run in. card is huge compared to my old 980. enjoy. But yeah the pascal cards are a something more of a game changer. the last couple of generations were more akin to card refreshes. the GtX 1000 pascal series were finally a more considerable leap in technology and gaming performance. the gtx 1080 is aprox 60% better than the 980, and still around 25-30% better than the 980 ti. Raven (Elysian Angel) Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 (edited) Indeed 2.0 really shines with a 1080 for sure. Low over Vegas with all settings about maxed out I stay over 100 fps. Not in VR, I bet. Your signature says you own a Rift, and in VR I get about 22 fps over desert areas and 15-16 over cities, using the same settings than what I use in 1.5.6 (but there I have between 45 and 100 fps in VR). I have a i7 6700k with 32 GB DDR4 2400 and a GTX 1080Ti, but the NTTR map is currently unplayable for me on my usual settings ("High" preset with AA and AF lowered to x4 and civilian traffic turned off; pixel density 2.5). Cibit Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 @ Big Newy enjoy the card, I am glad the Normandy map looks good with it. @Elysian Angel, at 2.5 PD I think any hardware out there would struggle. My i5 is the bottleneck in NTTR but at 1.5 PD High Textures and terrain, low traffic high VD, high shadows, no heatblur , water low and 16QMSAA and 16AF with nice results. Lower PD for more eyecandy and FPS IMO of course:) i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Adding JTAC Guide //My Vid's//229th AHB
BitMaster Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 I nveer found heatblurr to be so dramatic, water and shadows are much much worse for performance imho and experience...at leat for 1.5.x Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Sapphire Nitro+ 7800XT - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus XG27ACG QHD 180Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X
