I'm looking for feedback from those of you who wear prescription glasses. I've come across the following company that produces prescription lenses that fit in either the rift or vive.

http://vr-lens-lab.com

Even though my frames are not large from what I've read and watched its not easy using glasses with a VR head set so the VR Lenses look like an ideal solution.

If you have glasses how is it working?

If you use VR Lenses what has your experience been?

Thanks!

I researched the same issue and I saw a lot of mixed reviews for vr-lens-lab.

I ordered from https://vr-lens.eu/ as the price was cheaper, and the reviews less mixed.

I have not received them yet, but I did receive an email within 24 hours confirming my Rx (it is a bit odd due to some corrective surgery I had in the past). I will post a review when I have had a chance to try them out.

I tried the rift with my glasses on, fit was OK once on, but was as little uncomfortable due to pressure pushing the bridge of glasses down onto my nose. If I had to, I could wear them with the rift. However it was a FAFF to put the rift on, and a faff to take it off. I tried it without my glasses and found that I could see better. This was because I wear verifocals so the lower half was a bit out of focus viewing in the rift.

During setup you are given dimensions for glasses frames that will fit within rift, I should think these will also be on the oculus website somewhere.

Keep in mind scratching that Oculus lens would be a very bad thing... be careful.

I got the VR Lens Labs ones first. I knew that people were having distortion issues with them, but then they offered a different lens(RABS) that supposedly fixed it. IT DID NOT! The only good thing I got out of these was a nice little clam shell carrying case.

I then got the ones from vr-lens.eu. PERFECT! I can't notice any distortion at all. I'm a -3/-3.75 on my prescription, so not too strong. I can't speak to stronger prescriptions, but I'm betting it would work fine, since they use a totally different method from Lens Labs.

I would wholeheartedly recommend the vr-lens.eu inserts. And they are cheaper to boot.

I have the Rift with out of the box standard lenses and find I don't need my prescription glasses at all. Might be worth trying first.

It really depends what kind of glasses you have. If they have thin wire frames, they should fit inside without issues. Those with thicker, plastic frames may be a bit tricker to put inside or not fit at all.

One thing people often forget is that rift/vive optics have one focus point that is far away, so even if you are looking at objects near you (like cockpit parts), then your eyes don't have to accommodate. It doesn't cause problems with 3d perception (at least for most people), but if you are short sighted, then everything will be out of focus, even objects near to you. On the other hand, those that need reading glasses, don't need them in the rift.

I am short sighted and so got the VR Lens Lab CV1 inserts. I need to clean them regularly but otherwise they are excellent. Easy to fit in and take out they provide the corrected vision that my glasses would otherwise give. They do not touch the Oculus lens as they sit inside a thin frame. Special coatings are available, info on their website.

Hopefully the next VR generation devices will come with the adjustable focus lens. I'm surprised that this isn't already implemented, since not everyone have 20/20 vision.

I very much doubt that - the lenses, frennel or otherwise, will be a very specialist item. An individual's prescription lenses are also unique to that person, I don't see Oculus incorporating an adjustable focus lens to accommodate those that need glasses.

Agreed. Glasses are about more than just focus. If this were the case we would all just go to the corner store and buy a pair of plus whatever diopter glasses and be done with it.

Actually, they are not. The only other parameter that needs to be measured when making prescription glasses is your IPD, and current VR devices already have this adjustable. Adjusting focus simply needs movable optics, like in binoculars.

This is provided you don't have astigmatism. But John Carmack once boasted that he could fix astigmatism in VR on the software side.

I have a pair, and although they can fall out if you're not careful, they work very well. I also use the low profile face pad supplied by the same company. Definitely recommended.

For people using prism lenses (fresnel or not), and those with high astigmatism, adjustable focus would not be of much help, that's true.

But everyone else with simple myopia or hyperopia, with little or no astigmatism would very much benefit from it, just like in binoculars and cameras. Since VR has a single focal point, there's no need for multifocal lenses.

Looking at getting some lenses, problem with wearing my glasses in the Rift is that I have verifocals .

Reading up on them it looks like blue guard is worth having to protect your eyes. Does anyone have any feed back on blue guard and in particular is there any noticeable distortion in game colours?

I didn't notice anything. But I did read that the UE VR lenses (can't recall the name, but it's very similar to vr-lens-lab.com.

found it: https://vr-lens.eu/

I ordered from the former and never had an issue.

I have blue guard, and you can't tell there is anything different at all.

You won't need varifocals with VR as the vision is always at a constant distance. Just get a set of lenses for distance work only, and you'll be fine. I use varifocals, but my VR lenses are a single prescription.

Thanks for your post, I have glasses for reading and distance, and was in the dark so to speak as far as knowing what glasses to order.

Disappointing that diopter adjustments have been available on cameras for over 30 years but they haven't done it on any of the VR headsets.

Hopefully the 2nd gen will provide a better solution.

Any of you ever try contacts? That's all I wear.

I'm due a new set of glasses so might try contacts this time around. Only thing that puts me off is that for anything more than 5ft away I don't need any eye correction. Long sighted due to old age.

Hence why I think any item like these should have diopter adjustment built in.

After all it is the old generation that has been waiting for VR. The older generation that is more likely to have to surplus cash to afford such an expensive item and the older generation that will, in most cases, be asked to buy these things for there kids. And it's the older generation that is most likely to need eye correction

And the older generation that moans about stuff when its not as we want it :)

I came across this thread on reddit and ordered the glasses from zenni and had the adapter printed, it works great. I just take off my glasses and put on the rift.

I would try the VR kit without corrective lenses. You may find that your eyesight is fine for distance work, which is what effectively, the VR kit needs. If all you need is reading glasses, then you won't need them.

Ordered my lenses today from vr-lens-eu as they seem to have better feed back on various forums.
