Cool video. I wonder if the lag on the hud is true to actual performance or is that just a development placeholder.

I remember reading in another thread that it's accurate for that hud

The refresh rate will be higher for certain elements on the HUD. In this video, examples include the guncross and tracking diamond, which exist on a seperate rasterizer.

These will refresh more quickly than e.g. nav elements.

Once we have implemented our shaders for the HUD (think Viggen HUD) -- it will look far more natural with a lower refresh rate. Right now it's quite jarring, especially in 60fps contrast to everything else.

I'm not sure if copying this from the other thread will work on my phone but here's the word on the hud from cobra himself

I dont think it is suppsoed to be quite that slow a refresh rate

seeing some vidoes of F14 hud footage and they certainly appear to have a better Refresh.

Therefore I think this is still just a WIP HUD.

I very much agree and have thought the same thing after watching several F-14 HUD tapes... the refresh rates look fairly smooth....especially compared to what we've seen so far from LN/HB.

I think I speak for everyone when I say we need this aircraft in DCS. A full fidelity, relatively modern fighter is needed for the Western side. Keep us updated, I love seeing the Tomcat.

The real HUD is definitely way faster as evident in actual HUD recordings, and infact almost completely smooth in the roll axis. In pitch there's a slight lag, but nowhere near what's in the HB video. Thus it must be placeholder.

yeah, although Tomcat wont be the only one. F/A18C is also a "relatively" modern fighter too ( arguably more so since its service has outlived the F14) ;)

and both will be awesome to fly.

Hmm, let's see, the Western side already has the Mirage 2000C (4th gen modern) and you guys are going to get the F-14A and B, F-18C, and the Eurofighter Typhoon.

What do the Eastern side get? Nothing, nada

We've been over this a few times now; but some elements will refresh better. Some will be as poor as they are now. :)

It kills me to see the same stuff referenced over and over especially after it has been addressed already. Please don't let little things like people not reading the thread on their own dissuade you from further WIP posting. I say if already answered once, don't feel the need to reply again on it. We can point them out to the answer in thread provided upon initial question asked if the user is too lazy to read the posts since WIP media is posted up. :smilewink:

eastern gets a mig19 from Razbam :P

in all seriousness though, There really arent any 4th gen aircraft that ED or 3rd party has option to go for except maybe at best full fidelity versions of FC3 Su27 and Mig29A/S.

Some time ago from digging through old posts i learned the Su27SM and Mig29SMT plans were cancelled due to some issues obtaining data, and in fear of going against some espionage or security laws ( correct me if im wrong, i dont recall the exact details, but its more less along the lines of that)

No worries; just want to be clear about expectations. :)

There are other things which are laggy and slow in the F-14; like TID indications and selections for example- so it's important people understand just how early computer tech was when the F-14 was built! :)

Heh, yeah,

F14 entered service even before the Personal computers were really around in the mainstream market. F14s older than the APPLE 1 or the Altair 8800

I think you have been very clear on it so far. But your understanding and interest in preparing everyone is appreciated. Once out, we will all get a chance to see what this ancient computer tech it was equipped with was like whether already aware of it or not. We have faith you will get it right and if not on initial release, sometime thereafter. Heatblur Simulations knows their stuff we all know. We just want more of your stuff.

Great update !

Can we have any news about the Tomcat environment?

-Flight deck crew and possibility to taxi on the deck , line up with catapult ....

- Maybe a AI KA6 intruder for Refueling (for the earlier Tomcats )

on the ED carrier only 4 planes can take place on the deck, Can you recreate traffic on a deck ?

It would be very immersive, but a huge task!

Thank you for your regular communication, it is appreciable and allows to wait for the release .
