What aircraft are you going to be flying in normandy and why ?

Ok, just wondering. You're from the UK and took a name of a German squad. I thought you were playing the role of a German pilot. So, saying you'll fly the Jug confused me.

I think you'll find you're probably in a minority of picking a "side" and sticking with it.

Most of us are interested in the aircraft and aviation.

I'm interested in aviation too. I've loved the P-51 and P-47 since I was a kid. The A-10c F-15 and what's to come in the future. Lot's of planes to fly.

I have little interest in the 109. It's hard to see out of it. The landing gear setup is stupid etc etc. I put more thought into picking a plane to fly other than........ what's the best plane and i'll fly it. Another plane is released and it's even better...I'll fly it.

I don't think that way. I like more challenge than that. That's why I hunt for bear and elk with a flintlock rifle. Easy has never appealed to me.

Maybe you'd like the 190. I'm also a big fan of the P-51 and the P-47, and the 190 is similar in quite a lot of ways. As I say, they are all planes that love speed and dive and roll well. The visibility out the cockpit is really good in the 190 as well (I also really like that in planes), and the landing gear are wide and easy to handle like the P-51 and P-47.

If you tried the 109 enough you'd find out how easy is to take off, land, fly, dogfight, do aerobatics and so on. The 109 that ED developed is one of the best of its times.. you cannot ignore these facts unless you're an ignorant yourself. To tell us that "the landing gear is stupid" it's another proof of my previous statement...

I have flown the 109 and 190 in IL2 a lot. It's not that I can't fly it. I have no desire to fly them if I have the option to fly American planes. I'll take German planes if my only other choice are Russian planes.

As for the landing gear on the 109? Some German pilots were killed flying the 109 on takeoffs and landings. That's not a good design. They got smart when designing the 190.

I've watched videos of DCS online dogfights. A lot of them you can hear the pilots talking. In the German planes that i've watched the pilots have thick German accents. Their comments when shooting down a P-51 are.........Another American bastard dies. I find this completely acceptable and i'm sure that's what the real German pilots said in WW2. They were simulating being a WW2 pilot.

An American flying a German DCS plane shooting down a P-51 is unacceptable for me. I understand i'm in the minority with these feelings, (I've already said this) but that doesn't change how I feel.

Ok, enough of this. Nobody is going to change anybody's mind. We are who we are. Above all else have fun with DCS. Whatever it takes to do that. We're all different.

I'm done with this.

Honestly I just join the team which has the least amount of players, lol. Shooting down pesky Spitfires and 109s are the greatest. However I must agree shooting down my favourite planes makes me cringe. I don't I'll ever bring myself to shoot down a P-47, lol. Unless its in a ground attack role :/

get a grip man its just a game. if an American player wants to fly a german plane then why shouldn't he.

well... for the sake of simulating, i simulate im a independant and smart pilot that only flies for blood thirst so whatever plane/cuontry lets me fly it, i will... so i can kill.

I think being fan of a country/side makes one to lose a lot of parts of the game.

Imagine all the other people like me, from argentina, a country that doesnt even have planes on the game... should i dont play dcs because of that?

Btw, patriotism is pure cancer for the human race.

I am wondering whether I should even buy Normandy. I don't like the way ED sells Normandy and units separately. Not to mention that price is very high.

yes still worth buying because even though its meant for ww2, theres nothing stopping Mission designers or players from setting up Modern ground assets or flying various post ww2 aircraft

Well I don't care about modern jets but I still don't know if I should buy it realy. Not to mention that I would probably fly alone cause price is so high my friends said they don't want to have any part in this. Flying alone is no fun and especially against K4 and D9 over Normandy. As it is for now only Spit can fly there, unless ED sells G6 conversions and A8 conversions. I fail to find the appeal more and more and number of people will dwindle because most won't be able to pay the price.

The price for the Normandy + Asset Pack combined bundle is currently less than NTTR on its own if you didn't know.

That's just because its preorder and I think price for NTTR is too high anyway.

I will think about it, but currently I think I'll go play other sims for now.

Well would you work for free? No you wouldn't.

Snarky... nothing more. I am not their benefactor, I am a customer. And there are whole games that cost less than what ED wants for a single map without units.

So people that can afford a gaming PC capable of running DCS don't have the extra 40 bucks for the map with units??

Besides ED released an entire sim with a map and tons of AI and 2 planes to fly yourself for FREE. I don't know how you want ED to pay their bills and who knows how ED worked on the tech for the new map, the map itself and the units without gaining a single penny for these products.

It maybe expensive but all modules are worth the price. I certainly never felt like being ripped off by ed. Something i can't say about every flight sim dev.

You dont like post ww2 stuff? you ought to try it out, youd be surprised. IF its really jsut you not liking missiles there are still "dogfight" era jets like the F86 sabre and Mig15.

P51 can "fly" there too. as can any aircraft from any era.

ED is likely going to make a ETO rework on the P51D so there is still a chance we may see may just see a version 72/75 HG and 150 octane fuel, which is not only historical for 8th AF, but ofc will bump its performance to make it better suited to flying against the k4 and D9

All the ones I own, especially looking forward to the helicopters since this map looks fairly good at low altitude.

As for WWII, I'm mostly after immersive experiences which means campaigns are a big deal to me, seems I have to buy the Spitfire for the first WWII campaign. Really wish I could fly it in the Mustang, that circle stick grip thing is just strange!

Also, on the topic of choosing sides I too am one of those who "do". I'll always be in the allied aircraft, I'm always in an RP mindset and it's easier for me to feel "immersed" this way.

I've already made an exception for the KA-50 but only because there is no other attack helicopter and the KA-50 apparently has good content. I really do want an official Cobra module!
