StormBat Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 Hey all, I've been making missions for my brother and I for DCS for a few years now and I'm just wondering if the WWII map and or assets pack or any map for that matter will have working air raid sirens? I always thought it was great in the IL-2 series and it's an awesome heads up warning when enemy fly to close to our bases. Please if not then maybe ED can put them in or someone could mod one? Thanks all and happy flying/hunting/ :pilotfly: -Stormy X570S AORUS PRO AX MOTHERBOARD, AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D 8-core Processor, GIGABYTE GEFORCE RTX 3090 TI, 64GB DDR4(Corsair Vengeance LPX), DARK ROCK PRO 4 250W TDP Heatsink, Corsair AX1600i Power Supply, 2TB SSD, Windows 10 64 Bit VR: HP Reverb G2, VIRPIL: VPC Constellation ALPHA Prim[R], VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Throttle, VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Base
cichlidfan Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 Sure, as long as the only time you can hear them is when you are on the ground and your engine is not running. StormBat Posted April 10, 2017 Author Posted April 10, 2017 No you can still hear them even with engine running, they are pretty damn loud. But ya of course it would be dampened a bit though but still audible. razo+r Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 they are not needed, just a small feature, but since a lot of players only want to get airborn asap and won't pay a lot of attention to them, imo they are not needed otherwise you could make a mission with the sirenes in
StandingCow Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 They still serve no purpose once you leave the airfield. I think it's a good idea. It would add to the overall atmosphere imo. 5900X - 32 GB 3600 RAM - 1080TI My Twitch Channel ~Moo

REDEYE_CVW-66 Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Playing a soundfile audible in cockpit is not the same I think. I would be cool to place a sound 'emitter' (invisible object) that emits sound at given parameters and this would work just a normal AC engine: the closer the louder, and closed canopy, much lower etc. The advantage of having an emitter like this, is that you are not limited to sirens, it could just as well be frontline ambience (The airfields in Normandy were very close to the frontline and could hear artillery and small arms fire) or just ambient airfield sounds, like engine run ups, cars driving in the distance etc.

But we needed more didn't we. Look it adds to the immersion, especially to the WWII era. People always get excited when they know that enemy aircraft are in the immediate area and need to scramble before they get peppered on the ground. IL-2 was and still is great for that. You hear the sirens and you start looking up for the enemy. It's a lot of fun and excitement knowing that you are in danger and need to get up in the air, or for those who have Combined Arms and maps implemented with C A to get into a AAA or SAM to defend your airbases. That's my opinion. That's my opinion. I'd say hardware improvements vs software improvements and adding features to a software aren't the same... For sirens, sure, some like it, for some it can be annoying, but that's based on opinions The only wwii servers right now either have AAA to show you they are waiting for you Or They have scripts that tell you where they are... If they are already over the base, it would be pretty late to turn sirens on, especially for planes taking off... Sure it would be a nice touch but i don't think everyone likes it or will like it... As always, some people are for some against it...
Northstar98 Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 (edited) Good idea, I'm all for functional static objects, especially if it improves realism, maybe it wouldn't have much function to pilots but a good addition, it can't be too hard to implement. Though it might not be something with high priority. Good suggestion though :) Edited April 17, 2017 by Northstar98 Modules I own: F-14A/B, F-4E, Mi-24P, AJS 37, AV-8B N/A, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk.
