SKF Thakns! I shall do the same. I NEED increasing the tension too. I don't like a feel of driving a paper plane.

to get that plastic washer, you can find it when you buy a cd case, its that white thing sitting on top of all the cds. Most cd cases have that, and basically make a cut and hold down the springs and put it in. It's a little hard to hold down the spring but once you do it, its nice. Or you can use the washer and curl it around the spring, it also increase tension but not as much as my 1st method above.

Dont grease uner the black spring disk, just the axis. Youll develop serious precision issues if you do. Its supposed to rotate on the base as you move the stick arround and youll get vibrations if you grease it.

My experience was the opposite. I got vibration when I didnt.

Plastic on plastic, with lots of movement, isnt ideal.

I ask because I've got a Cougar with the Evenstrain and Hall Sensors mods

At what price does all that come to?

I still use a TM FLCS/TQS with digital chips and have never even thought of getting a Cougar or any other stick. My 8 year old HOTAS works still like a dream.

Oh I don't know, two or three grand. :)

j/k, honestly I don't remember. Maybe $500 in mods? It's insane, I know. I guess I can't quite say "it was worth it", because damn that's a lot of money to spend on a $300 HOTAS, but I can without a doubt say that NO other stick I've ever seen even comes close to the smooth motion that a modded Cougar has.

yea i will get a cougar fully modded one day if i have like a grand to blow off. But an X-52 is (IMHO) the best bang for the buck since its fairly cheap for a hotas and you don't need to get a rudder set.

I'm just curious why people find a stick that is too loose to be undesirable? Does it deviate from what an actual flightstick feels like or does it make it too sensitive? I guess I could also see it helping in making more precise adjustments since there would be more resistance. Anyway, I feel like the responsiveness is more or less fine for me, but since I haven't had experience with many sticks, I'll probably try that washer technique and see if I like it any better.

Thats odd because mines dry as it was from factory. I had it greased once and decided to clean it up and leave only the axis lubricated, that solved my problems. Plastic on this plastic has a low friction coefficient, and lubrincant cuased some sort of micro slides wich causes me vibrations.

Must be the Lubricant quality type.

Does that paint on the handguard handle the heat ok? Doesn't it get sticky?

Edit: DOH! That question was about Rugg's AR, not the stick topic.

Rich, have you ever tried a modded Cougar, one without the 'ruts' and original spring force?...I would imagine, if you felt that your X-52 was so smooth, that you'd be positively ecstatic with a modded Cougar.

No. I never have tried one. OTOH, the X-52 is within my price range... :)

If you haven't done so already i recommend doing 2 things to the X-52. I put a plastic washer in between the springs to increase the tension...{The 2nd} important thing i would do to the X-52 is to change the clutch button (which is the "I' button on the throttle). I changed it to an actual button and moved the clutch function to the reset button on the throttle.

Thanks. I'll consider both. For the time being, the spring tension feels okay under my hand. Both gross and refined adjustments to my flight are easily made and accurate without any sense of overcontrolling the aircraft. But I'll probably experiment with it anyway. :) My one concern with increasing tension is that it might cause increased wear that the point where the disks are sliding over each other. Moving the clutch button and gaining an additional button on the throttle might be very useful, though. I'll know once I get closer to finishing the button assignments.

Be carefull with mapping the clutch button! Yesterday I noticed malfunction. The clutch started to blinking and buttons stopped working. I had to unplug and plug again the stick. This can be very annoying in midflight.

Anyone else had such problem?

Some of the prices I've heard banded around for a fully moded Cougar is just insane, I could afford it but I couldn't justify it if you know what I mean. I'm not judging anyone .. if its what you want then more power to ya but I'd rather have a CH setup that will work straight out of the box for years.

Cozmo.

can you guys explain in detail how to attach the plastic washer to the base of the handle above the springs? it looks great from the pic, but I'd appreciate some extra input and how to precisely go about getting that done.

I"m still using my X-45 after 4+ years, but it's alot smoother since the centering collar broke...lol
