Just wondering if anyone here upgraded from 1070 to 1080ti and if upgrade was worth it - at least as far things in DCS VR go?

Only in bumping up pixel density in 2.1 as in 1.5 1070 can push up to 1.8pd in 1.5 i found that 1070 is choking already at pd 1.3 in 2.1. But hard to tell now as 2.1 is stuttery for other reasons.

Hard to say, I have a 1080 and I am just going to wait for next generation myself. From what I can see currently 2.1 taxes pretty much any video card especially in VR.

I would not jump to any current judgement based on the current performance of v2.1. While the 1080ti might give a nice boost in certain areas, I would probably hold off until v2.1 gets a few more patches.

I have a 1080Ti and I fly only VR with 2.5 pixels, standard VR settings, no stuttering both in 1.5 and 2.1 Normandy. Easy to read cockpit dials and a good VR experience is totally engrossing.

Wow if you are getting no stutters in 2.1 with a PD of 2.5 you are doing very, very well!

I went from a 980ti to a 1080ti and notice a big difference. 1.8 pd and high settings except I keep shadows and water at medium and I like keeping helicopters at low altitude.

Hmmm, my system matches yours and I could never get that. :(

i went from a 970 to a 1080 to a 1080ti. and even the last jump to the 1080ti showed improvements.

it really depends on if you wish to bump up your settings higher, what settings are you running at the moment?

OH OH!

I have seen this response before.................

The wallet ALWAYS ends up much lighter.

And the story always ends up the same way!

Happens to me ALL THE TIME! :D

but is there a real upgrade in visuals

between SS at 1.3 (like mine and my 980 GTX )

and SS at 2.0 or higher ??

cause at SS 1.3 ... cocpkit is clear and visible and all is good to fly.

my question : is it not better to stay at 1.5 max ... and increase the sliders on all graphics options ???

Same here...changing my 980ti to a 1080ti made definitely a noticeable difference! I know that the performance of 1070 and 980ti is pretty similar, though I read the 1070 is more optimized for vr...

I think it all depends on you CPU. some folks here report performance, that to me equals to the beauty of Unicorns.. I believe them, but I have never seen it :)

Unless you have an OC'ed 7700K, you will probably won't see any noticeable difference in the frame rates as far as min and AVG FPS. you will however be able to push graphics settings a bit higher. Personally I have tried PD of 2.5 on my rig. it was the most beautiful thing I've seen in DCS in VR (add maximum shadows on top of that). however, it all went away when I unpaused the game :)

jumping from 970 to 1080 had made a difference for me, but the game also optimized at that time frame, so the actual gains might have been smaller. regardless. a 1080TI should allow you to bump up PD. as it is mostly GFX card workload (it does not affect minimum FPS as that is usually CPU constraint). I found that my 1080 is peaked at about PD of 1.7-1.8 (I can't really go up to 2.0 and maintain 90 fps in any scenario).

I went from a 1070 to a 1080ti, I have noticed a slight difference but I also changed my CPU from a 4690 @ 4.6 to a 7700 @ 4.8, so I don't know what made the difference, probably the CPU to be honest, I look at it (to justify the cost) if you have the best then there's nothing else you can do to improve DCS and you will also get the best performance from other VR games

But I don't think the improvement you see would justify the cost unless you have plenty of money that is!!

I went from a 980 to a 1080ti. being able to bump up the pd and some extra smoothness was nice. I would say that for DCS the cpu (particularly clock) is still the main factor. I think the age and evolution of DCS will always keep it a struggle though. That said, running native VR games I can run pd 2 and max out settings and that is sweet. Even some titles that have added VR after but done it well can be run max or near max, if the implementation was done well. Dirt Rally, PCars and BOS maxed are sweet. Since I only play games in VR now, the cost was worth it for me.

I think this echoes my experience. I went from a 1070(FE) to a 1080ti (FE). While it was a bit smoother it wasn't lifechanging. This may be one of those situations where a CPU upgrade (focusing on high Turbo Boost; DCS is still mostly single-threaded) may have a bigger impact.
