Hey all

I usually fly the KA-50. There's a fantastic "how to take off and blow stuff up" mission with an accompanying PDF that gives you all the basic key/switch commands you need to be able to learn how to take off and blow stuff up - it only includes the very basics, which is actually very helpful.

Just wondering, and apologies because I think I've asked this before, but is there a similar mission/guide for the A-10?

Whilst I know how to take off and blow stuff up in the KA-50 and can go back to it at any time and do so successfully, every time I go to fly the A-10 I can get airborne, that part is easy, but I get befuddled by all the keys/switches that need to be pressed to use the weapons and I just want to know what I need to know for firing the gun, bombs and missiles - surely the A-10's weapon systems are not more complicated to use than the KA-50's?

Thanks in advance.

Here's how I describe the two modules to people:

A-10C: Flying = pretty easy; Systems = damn difficult

Ka-50: Exact opposite

So to answer your question, yes, the A-10's systems are way more complicated than the Sharks.

I dont know any document like that but if you just wanna use like 1 or 2 different weapons, i can write down the steps for you

Thanks that would be immensely helpful.

Do I think you have the right approach ? No.

Thanks.

Unfortunately my approach is the one I best learn with. I find it difficult to read large amounts of text and learn something from it, however if someone provides me with a "To do X press A, then press B, then press C" type of guide I can follow it and remember it after a few goes.

That's why I like the "how to take off and blow stuff up" mission for the KA-50 - the pdf or web page I read was concise and straight to the point, no waffle, it just tells you precisely what to do and which buttons to press or switches to flick.

Anyhoo it seems I can fire THE gun. That seems to be the easiest thing to learn.

Just need to know how to drop bombs and fire missiles...

...and I need to learn how to aim THE gun, I just did a practice mission and it seems I'm a terrible shot, although I did manage to hit some stuff. :D

Can't go wrong with the quickstart guide. It had me blowing stuff up in no time. I guess the TM Warthog helped, too.

That's the "problem" with the A-10C: Its HOTAS concept not designed like that. Most HOTAS buttons have different functions depending on the situation and operating mode of the various systems. Same thing with the buttons for the multi function displays, that are used to select and configure the weapon systems and other things.

So I can only recommend to read the excellent manual and try to understand the logic behind the systems, even if it's hard.

Here we go again...... I haven't even mentioned the manual and people are already scared of it...

QuiGon, do you now see, what I mean ?

Read this so I don't have to repeat myself:

On the oposite ! I don't think the systems are difficult. They are logical, so they can be easy to use. If the systems were difficult, they wouldn't have bothered to put them in the aircraft. The whole idea behind the HOTAS system is to make it easier on the pilot.

Do the tutorials ! They give all the basics on "How to get off and blow stuff up". Pause the mission and write stuff down if you think you have to.

They should be enough to spark your interest to start watching videos of other people playing. See how they approach targets and situations and learn from tham. Try to reproduce it.

And when they do something neat, and you don't know how to do that, then you can refer to the manual and see what is going on in deapth.
