lazduc Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 (edited) I want to build another system. Should I wait for the 8700k which should be out sometime in November or get a 7700k now. Lots of pro's and con's. This system will be for gaming only. The big difference is the 8700k is 50% faster in multi-thread apps. Single type, as in DCS, is only 6-8% faster than the 7700k. It is also $60.00 more. Dont know what the Z370 chipset brings vs Z270? Lots of shared lanes between M.2 and video lanes and other pci-e. Wonder about using my two 1080ti in sli with a couple of M.2 ssd drives. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks Laz :D Edited October 27, 2017 by lazduc mis-type
Mr_sukebe Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 Whilst DCS might not use it, pretty much anything using DX12 will, possibly even including a later version of DCS. 7800x3d, 5080, 64GB, PCIE5 SSD - Oculus Pro - Moza (AB9), Virpil (Alpha, CM3, CM1 and CM2), WW (TOP and CP), TM (MFDs, Pendular Rudder), Tek Creations (F18 panel), Total Controls (Apache MFD), Jetseat

They just don´t use all that bandwidth. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] GCI: "Control to SEAD: Enemy SAM site 190 for 30, cleared to engage" Striker: "Copy, say Altitude?" GCI: "....Deck....it´s a SAM site..." Phantom88 Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 I was going to start a 7700K vs 8700K thread yesterday:) Glad you did!!! My concern is stock GHz Speed...7700K is 4.2GHz while 8700K is 3.7GHz ?? Why no improvement there? Patrick

Demon_ Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 (edited) No, both run at 4.4Ghz (turbo boost) on 4 cores and the 8700K run at 4.3Ghz on 6. More Cache memory. Edited October 28, 2017 by Demon_ Attache ta tuque avec d'la broche.
lazduc Posted October 28, 2017 Author Posted October 28, 2017 Well NewEgg just emailed me my auto-notice that they have the 8700k in stock.....well they are all gone......matter of minutes. I missed. I put in another auto-notice. You have to be sitting on your computer to catch it. You miss by a few minutes you lose. A guy has a new 7700k for sale for 280.00. The 8700k wont work with a 200 chipset. So either or. If I can get a 8700k within the next week then thats the way I will go. Anyone else have trouble with a Corsair water pump on your 7700k? Wont order parts until I get the processor. Laz

RaJaN Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 Don't buy the 7700k, if the 8700k are not available consider 8600k: In many cases the 8600k overclocks better then 8700k.
Hadwell Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 (edited) you can overclock the 8700K and 8600K to 5GHz, with good cooling, even higher... if you're going to get a K part, you're going to run a better cooler than that cheap hunk of aluminum intel should really stop including with their cpus, save it for something more useful, like beer cans... petsild Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 With a good heatsink and delid the CPU can be switched to the enhanced turbo, then they will go all the cores to 4.7 GHz quite easily. I'm just afraid that more than 4 cores on the engine DX11 are useless. MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4, Kingston 3600 MHz 64 Gb, i5 12600K, Gigabyte RTX 4090, Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus,VKB NXT Premium.

On Asus and at least MSI boards XMP can also increases your All-Core max speed . It also did so on Z170 with my Asus and MSI boards. uri_ba Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 I'm in the process of moving my cockpit around the house. But I've using that as an excuse to upgrading my computer, I'm upgrading from i7-2600K to a 8700K. I'm going to do my best in benchmarking things as I go in a DCS oriented way (VR and 4K). it will probably take me a while to get everything set up, benchmarked, crunched, compiled and published. but it should help out. But just a foot note, I get over 130FPS on average on "High" preset with my 2600K on a 4K monitor (GTX1080).. I have no clue why anyone should upgrade a CPU for DCS on a 2D screen.. I'm only upgrading only in hopes to get better Performance in VR. (again, this will be answered after I finish doing all the stuffs).. Abburo Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 (edited) 8700k is the new king CPU for gaming ... this is a fact! Besides the highest per core speed it have the advantage of best single core processing power. These features along with higher bandwidth to MB with z370 chipset (over previous intel implementations) makes 8700K a no brainer choice. I would not go with any compromise and better wait more time to cash some extra money to get it.
