IR threaths on RWR `?

When being shot by a SA13 I got a *13* notice on the RWR without sound. I though the Harrier didnt have a MWS ??

DCS has them as radar equipped launchers:

 

Strela_9K31 = 25; -- launcher

Strela_9K35 = 26; -- launcher (ln)

In the other modules, we dont have a IR SAM "lock" when firing.

On the A10C or the M2K, you have a missile warning with the MWS, but no "lock" on the RWR from an IR threat.

Strelas and other IR SAM systems cant paint no RWR on any plane.

Not sure but I as long as I can remember as one of my squad mates said the sa13 has a small radar which sometimes can cause some rwr markings, if I can remember it right he reported it on f-15 rwr couple of times, not sure about that,and can't confirm it.

The missiles themselves are IR-guided, but the launch platform uses radar to help with targetting.

SA-13 has a radar telemeter. The telemetry signal (if used) might be detected by some RWRs. Therefore, it is not impossible to get a RWR spot before the SA-13 launch a missile.

The Strela SA-9 doesnt have any radar at all. Only EO-IR.

 

The Strela SA-13, more advance, has the 9S16 "Flat Box-B" passive radar. This radar emits no radar energy at all. Only detect radio waves from enemy aircrafts.

 

Also there are variants of the SA-13 with the 9S86 "Snap Shot" J Band radar. This is the only Strela SAM that will be detected by RWR if is programmed to do so.

In this case we need to ask if the SA-13 in DCS uses the radar or not. If yes, then we need to know if the RWR is able to pick this kind of J-Band radar. I think so because the Tunguska has also a similar J-Band radar

If shown on the RWR screen, then it is using the radar.

Sa-13 does spike all aircraft in DCS if you get close enough.

Isn't it a simple radar to determine range to target, ie. when to fire and not a search radar? So, it should be detected briefly before launch.

So does the Harrier behave differently in this case than other RWR-equipped aircraft? If not, it's not a Harrier issue, if it's an issue at all.

The fact that other aircraft RWRs have not picked up the SA-13 has always bugged me (I reported it as an issue back during the A-10 beta phase but it was never sorted), if the Harrier RWR is picking it up it’s a very good thing. It shouldn’t be picked up unless the SA-13 is question is targeting your aircraft but it should be detected.

sa13 ranging radar was added a few patch levels back. It "locks" you very shortly before firing in any aircraft I fly.

 

If you go for it you can even use the sidearm on them like that.
