Not sure if It's a bug,Canopy Issues.

Up sun crazing is a feature, not a bug.

If you find that distracting then I'd say you're being a little precious. If anything, 2.5 will make your life more difficult as there are new reflections being added to the cockpit.

Have you ever looked through Perspex in sunshine?

IRL the sun is a major issue. I flew from Kcae, Columbia SC to KATL Atlanta every day for over a year. In the late evening I flew into the sun and it was basically IFR. If people want 100% realism, then you would end up with a sim when operating on a sunny day basically totally washed out and then would need to properly simulate sunglasses or visor.

Then we would need what I would call "BUG GUTZ 2.0". A realistic bug guts addon with various colors, running streams of goo, wings, exploders..... Even some "live" that hang on till about 150 or so.

"Pigeon Poo Pro" is also a idea of mine. Anyone who every owned or maintained a aircraft despises these flying rats that disperse "White Out TM" of their asses and ruin your freshly detailed machine. BTW White Out actually is pigeon poo. Mike Nesmith of the Monkeys mother's story behind White Out went like this . A overflying pigeon over flew her and with a perfect aim hit her magazine with it's white waste and she had her inspiration. Or so some guy told a friend of a stranger I met.

I find the canopy scratches very distracting overall. But particularly when I zoom in on the HUD (in ground strafing) the scratches makes it difficult to aim at targets.

IMO they're overdone.

Well, at night the sun reflections should not be an issue, considering how there is no sunlight to be reflected. I think it's a bit of a bug in 1.5.8 that for example clouds also appear fully lit for some reason in the dead of night. Going to be fixed, I presume.

No it won't be fixed because 1.5.8 is in the final couple of weeks of it's usefulness.

When 2.5 arrives, it will be consigned to the virtual land fill site.

I don't believe I'm being "precious" at all actually.

What I think I done was to express an opinion and personal point of view.

Whether or not I've ever looked through perspex or not, is irrelevant too.

My original post acknowledged that it may indeed be realistic but, let's be honest here, my reality is that I'm using the software for entertainment purposes, with less than perfect eyesight on a monitor and options to remove stuff that I don't find "fun" but annoying when trying to spot stuff (which is hard anyway!) is always useful i'd say.

That one definitely can't be intended, lol It's a very small repeating pattern. I'd say somebody screwed the texture.

could not agree more

Reflections and Tinting are one of the major headaches(literaly!!) i have with grafics...

'controlling' the Ka50 feels like a discussion with the Autopilot and trim system about the flight direction.

My picture of the gazelle cockpit side window doesn's look like crazing it looks like someone was locked in there and they were counting the days off by scratching the window.

scratches in these Canopys are realistic and there should be some.

I flew a glider once where you couldnt see anything as soon as te sun was in front of you because of the scratches. But the Canopy was old and has to be changed for a new one.

The thing is to find somehow a way to show some scratches but not too much that you still can see clearly through.

In the Screens i saw this is the case, you have scratches which give you the illusion of a closed canopy and a plane in use but not so many that you have trouble to see anything outside.

If what we had looked like the A-10 vid above, which is in harsh sunshine, then it would be great. Look how fine thos crackles are. They are about 50 times finer than what we currently have. The dings (probably on the inside of the canopy, caused by pilots helmets hitting the perspex) are something that we are missing too. In Xplane, that sort of thing is used to give you visual references when using head tracking. EG. There is a small ding in the windscreen of the Cessna that "just happens" to be where your line of sight for the horizon falls. There is usually a separate "dirt map" that deals with that sort of thing though, and it is separate to the crazing effect.

At the moment, this is dealt with by a small 256x256 normal map that is tiled all over. You can just delete it as a temporary fix, and the effect will be gone. Or if you have the means, edit it or create a higher fidelity version.

Look for \DCS World\Mods\aircraft\AV8BNA\Textures\AV8BNA-CPTAV8_RS_10C_BUMP.dds & delete/hide the file.
