Not sure, watch Vive reviews for that :P (But I heard from a guy that the Rift is not that bad with the unsharp area)

Yes I think most problem is caused by memory leak though (hoping this is related to it as Singleplayer works nearly flawless in WRM!)

3 things I noticed that make more fun/important:

1. headset (audio) must be over the WMR and way forward so headset doesn't fall off the WMR (maybe even tape headset to the WMR)

2. would be good t have some hard stuff around my head (wood or plastic, as "cockpit", so when I lean too far that my head would hit a surface in reality, so I feel the cockpit border, fox max realism :D maybe I will build something from wood xD )

3. better to have a chair with a low/short back rest, other it'll be in the way when turning your head+shoulders 180° to look if aircraft is chasing you (shoulder will press onto chair rest), so a low chair is prefered, otherwise you must sit straight up (i do that now xD ) and not lean in the chair...

procedure is easier now:

1. open windows start menu,

2. type "device manager", click on "device manager"

3. under "screens", disable "Mixed Reality Headset" (not uninstal!). Then DCS will start in normal screen mode.

(don't forget, to play in VR again you must enable this again in Device Manager for WMR portal to detect your headset again!)

btw works too when disabling "Dell Visor" directly in "Mixed Reality" menu. that's the easier way even! ;)

By any chance has anyone used more than one of these headsets?

I can get my hands on a Dell Visor WMR headset for around $250AUD or a Samsung Odyssey for close to $600 AUD. As much as I'd like to get the boost in resolution, could anyone give me an indication whether it is worth such a big price difference?

Or should I get the Dell now, and wait for another 12-18 months for an even better headset?

(Oculus and Vive are out of the question as they are both close to $1000 AUD)

I don't know what the Odyssey sharp-area is, and not sure if it's important to you, but wait till next DCS patch, then ask me here if WMR is working in DCS multiplayer (as it still crashes for me in multiplayer).

Tom, here are my thoughts on the Odyssey Vs other WMR HMD's:

  • The Odyssey has a mechanical IPD adjustment slider on the headset. The others adjust in software only;
  • The Odyssey has the best resolution available currently;
  • The Odyssey allows for an IPD adjustment >67mm. The other WMR HMD's are limited to IPD<67mm only (my personal IPD is 69, so this is important);
  • The Samsung has integral headphones;
  • The Samsung has DUAL microphones (VS a single);
  • The Odyssey has an on-device volume adjustment control. VERY convenient;
  • The Odyssey uses Active-matrix OLED displays. Better colors and contrast.

I was on the fence until Samsung reduced the price of the Odyssey to $399.99. That did it for me, and I haven't looked back since.

"Active-matrix OLED" sounds interesting... :P But I already bought the Dell Visor xD (once it works in DCS multiplayer I will judge if I sell it on eBay or not)

BTW, in my experience, the Odyssey absolutely has the same "sweet spot" challenges seen in other Fresnel lens HMD's. A minor adjustment up/down/fore/aft can make a huge difference in image quality...as can getting your IPD set correctly.

What pixel density do you run with the Odyssey if any? Have very similiar computer as you.

Important note, if you have multi-monitor, cover your other black monitors with a folded paper so the tracking cameras don't get irritated and lose track. Important. (white square is easiest for tracking runtime, compard to massive black object)

No, normal Win 10. In Steam, go to SteamVR properties, there you have the different versions. I still had issues with sidetracking, but that may have been due to not enough light in my room. Will try again sometime with room lamp on.

Yes, either memory leak or your RAM or VRAM is too small I think. I had it only very few times. Usually my game (multiplayer) crashes in WMR...

Recently got an Odyssey to see if it performed better than the CV1.

I'm running into a weird issue though. In DCS, and only in DCS, the left and right eyes are not being rendered at the same height. The right eye is further up than the left.

Can't find any info on what might be causing this, but it has made it unusable. The headset works fine in WMR and SteamVR home environments.

Ah yes that is possible, I only have 8Gb RAM right now. I will chuck in another 8Gb and see how it goes. Thanks :-)

(Although I suspect these issues will disappear if DCS get's native WMR support)
