Great job ED. The new map is stunning.

I had a blast sightseeing in VR with my F-86. It's clear the engine is very optimized because I had max settings and enjoyed the VR experience immensely. The visibility distance was fantastic for VR.

I noticed the new explosion fx when using the SU-25 Frogfoot. Very excited to see more FX implemented. Those rocket explosion FX were stunning, I especiialy like how the dust and smoke lingered for more than just a couple of seconds. I hate how most games don't/can't implement this.

Great work guys!! Can't wait to see what's next.

I have a high end rig and 2.5 in VR is not good tried everything. dreading 2.5 release in a weeks time.

Well it works great for me but I have a high end system (8700k cpu OC @5Ghz/ddr4@3ghz/Titan X video card)

I agree! I had a great experience with my rift and 2.5 yesterday, can't wait to get back in tonight! Buzzed around in the A-10A and C and the F-15. I run an I7-7700k@4.8ghz with a GTX1080...just an awesome VR experience.

Newest Nvidia - all default here.

Ingame: Very thing on High, but MSAA which is on 2x, Shadows on default.

When in VR and a mission Ive get a dip here and there to 37fps, or else its 45fps all the time so need to back down a bit to get 45 all the time, and 90fps here and there.

When not in VR, 1920*1080 never get below 135fps.

Fresh install of 2.5 ! And plane is A10-C.

PC is:

Got to try it for a couple minutes last night. I made a mission a while back where I start in the air looking down over Kobuleti. The first thing I said was "holy S$$t". It looked amazing, ran smooth. Couldn't be happier.

Don't know if I'm being picky, but I only play in VR and my observations so far are not good.

I think the graphics have gone backwards. I mean, buildings, trees etc look so bland and cardboard-like almost like 80's graphics. From the air buildings look like lego bricks scattered on the floor. Ripple circles have appeared in the sea for no reason and runway textures look like they have gone from smooth tarmac to made of biscuit!

All lighting at night is now just white and all windows are lit up (I think). All nearby buildings are now shimmering and FPS is down over 5.8 too.

Sorry, but this is not at all the massive improvement I was expecting at all. I'm ring fencing 5.8 for the foreseeable.

Has anybody figured out the right mouse click functionality with oculus touch?

I use a button on my HOTAS as a modifier. Its in the button config (in the sim). At that point any button on your HOTAS can have a second function. The slew on the TMWH has a button on it which I use for left click and alternatively as the right mouse button when I hold down the modifier.

How do you get VR to run nothing happens other than Steam VR open and I see a picture of a black receiver on a white background. Anyone point to steps on how to use VR with the new version?

Would be nice that ED could add a feature to bind the Touch Controllers in controls, so they would be visible. As having a one (or two) controller more for pointing and operations with:

1) Physical buttons (A/B and stick press)

2) Axis buttons (grip and trigger axis + 2 axis from stick)

3) 6 touch buttons (trigger, grip, touch button, A/B and stick)

We could have a multipliers for those to do different things.

What I just really want is as now the stick acts like mouse scroll wheel. But then I want the buttons A/B to be left/right mouse buttons and trigger to work as multiplier, like shift A/B to ESC and VR Reset as left touch controller is now. And the grip would act as now as the activation for pointer.

It is very impressive to really operate the cockpit with a touch controller, but I consider that as well "press and move" could work for rotaries...

Anyways operating now the CDU and such is far faster and nicer.

And it is interesting that Titan X can render perfect VR experience, while 1080Ti can't, and the 1080Ti is faster and higher performer than Titan X.

If it would be a Titan V.... then I could understand.

You do realize that the TI is a whopping 5% faster than a Titan X right?

You also need to realize that CPU single-thread performance along with ram speed is a major factor for VR.

I have done extensive testing with this sim and the IL2 series and I am confident there is more to it than just the graphics card.

This is why I have my 8700k cpu overclocked to 5Ghz and fast high-end DD4 3Ghz ram.

I run DCS with all settings maxed (no depth, msaa 2x). I have max vis and max trees. I keep the smokestack settings low because it looks weird maxed out.

I have pixel density set to 1.3 and I turn off ASW for the Rift (I prefer world stutter over double-vision on objects when frame-rate occastionaly drops).

It is a gorgeous VR experience for me with occasional dips below 90FPS in dense rendering areas like low altitude.

I am amazed you can hit 90fps most of the time with those settings. I have an 8700 at 5ghz and 3ghz ram with a 1080ti and have not seen 90 fps at any time. I do run pd at 1.5 though

I was blown away how much better the VR was now in 2.5 the graphics look so much better and it is very smooth no jitter or anything. I run SteamVR on 3.0 Supersampling also. I know people will ask so here is my Specs.

i5 6600k 3.5mhz (OC to 4.3mhz)

Asus Nvidia 1080 ROG Strix 1835mhz (OC to 1935mhz)

Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB(2x16GB) DDR4 DRAM 2400MHz

HTC Vive with SteamVR Supersampling at 3.0

Asus ROG has a nice little program with it for overclocking and it has a Gaming Boost on it which turns off all the background programs that you don't use for gaming which helps a lot.

Here is my DCS setting I use PD at 1.0 since I am using SteamVR at 3.0

I've always been impressed with DCS implementation of VR. But in 2.5, they really need to sort out the performance hit with MSAA enabled. Either you cop a big performance hit or you put up with a lot of shimmer and aliasing. For me, 2.5 performance is therefore much worse compared to 1.5.8 as i like and feel its necessary to have MSAA x4 enabled.

I also think the lighting is a over done, and some of the cockpits need re-working such as the A10C. Perhaps a separate gamma for outside and inside the cockpit may help here as a temporary fix.

Check out my 'real world'

Turn it off and turn up your SteamVR they are both anti aliasing I never use anti aliasing in any game don't need it with Supersampling turned up.

I set my pd to 1.3 anything higher lowers the avg fps to below 90fps consistently.

Did you make sure vsynch is off? Some games actually cap frame rates below 90fps if vsynch is on since it's using the monitor settings not the hmd. This is especially true for titles like warthunder.

It depends on expectations/standards, your own system, and how you actually play DCS. Myself I just put a few targets around Vegas/Caucasus and go shooting. I have an absolute blast and just love the relaxation/exhilaration of flying (gazelle mainly)!

There are missions that are unplayable for me even now, and massive multi explosions still seem to be lagging the game when there is a lot of activity going on, but really realistically DCS is a hugely demanding game. Most people I think when they say its great now, mean just generally without too much going on in a mission.

For getting the best from the VR/DCS experience the mission editor is just as important as the graphics settings. Its best to create new, or tailor pre existing missions to your own VR specifications. An option to limit tree numbers would be nice though!

I really think it would be great if the VR community could post up missions for each other to fly, missions designed with VR performance in mind!

At the moment the lighting has problems in and outside of the cockpit. Night missions are waaay too dark, flying over a city like Vegas feels more like flying over war time London in a Dornier! But these are all issues that will be fixed I think! Try Vegas at 7.30 in December!

Vsync is off. Tried on 1.3 pd and still no where near 90fps. What map are you testing on? Which plane, which mission? Even on the A10 training mission unguided bombs I am not getting 90 at high alt.

:thumbup:Good Call!! I lowered my PD from 1.5 to 1.3 with really no noticeable resolution change,I did however get more consistent higher FPS  Got my Sweet Spot!! :)

with the advent of limited oculus touch controller support, i was able to finally play DCS level aircraft, in this case, the A10C

MY GOSH

i am blown away.

i can finally go through a few training missions, follow the guided instruction.. look around with the headset.. operate controls on the virtual cockpit via the touch controllers.. and with the thrustmaster warthog, i can do all the cycling of mfcd pages and hud (before some of the buttons were mapped for camera view controls)

jeeeee bus!!! it was a liberating experience to fly without worrying about most of the keyboard commands (PLEASE I DO NOT WANT TO HEAR ABOUT VOICE ATTACK)

i can not wait to see what the F18C has to offer... thrustmaster needs to come out with the F18C hotas sooon!!!
