Bingo41
Hi All 1) Yesterday, when I was updating my HOTAS profile, I had setup a mission with an A/C on the runway. I opened the “Adjust Controls” section to look up keypresses as I updated my profile. However, after a bit of time, I noticed that DCS would freeze up and I would have to perform a Control Alt Delete. This was very repeatable. 2) Today, when I launched DCS, I noticed a small update was executed…..I assume it is update 6, but is not yet mentioned on the DCS website? After the update, I launched DCS and flew a number of different A/C, and the sim would freeze while in flight, and the only way to get out was wait until the data recovery tool would request to send data back to the DCS development team, or do a CTL-ALT-DEL. I also noticed that if I left the A/C sitting on the runway long enough, it would also freeze. This happened in both 2D mode, or when flying VR. The sim is now basically un-flyable. 3) Up until yesterday, I had experienced anything like this? EDIT - It was suggested that I update the title by moderator. After more thoughts about Update 5, which fixed the missing buildings in Las Vegas, I remember DCS working after update 5. However, it was after the minor update 6, or whatever it was, as it appeared to be just a minor update, is when I consistently started to see 100% failure. In fact, if I start on the ground and do nothing, it will eventually lockup and crash. As you look thru this thread, I have gone thru a "clean" and "repair" several times. I did update my video driver from 388.59 to the latest 391.35, but to no avail. I also fly P3D V4.1 with a ton of planes and complex scenery, including the PMDG aircraft in both VR and 2D, and it works great, no issues. In all the years of flying DCS, I have never experienced an issue like this! Bingo41
Hi, I ran the dcs_updater.exe repair option and after a few brief minutes it crashed......so freezing and crashing is still an issue. I was able to click ok and permit the sending of an automated message back to the development team. Bingo41
Last Item, I did the following recommended step: Rename your dcs / dcs.openbeta folder in saved games ( keep it as a backup ) And it still freezes and crashes. I will have await a response from DCS or a fix. I can no longer fly DCS. Flappie
Bingo41, your log shows the "DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED" error. This means the problem comes from either your graphics card or its driver. You should first try resetting your nVidia control panel: If it doesn't change anything, try updating your nvidia drivers, then restart your computer. If the game still crashes, we'll need to look at your graphics card frequencies, through GPU-Z, or MSI Afterburner. Bingo41
Flappie, Resetting the "Manage 3D Settings" did not fix the issue. I am currently running Nvidia 388.59 drivers on a Gigabyte 1080TI graphics card. The latest WHQL Nvidia driver is 391.35. However, sometimes the latest driver is not the best for a particular sim. What version do you recommend? By the way, up until these latest updates 5 & 6, I have not had any issues with DCS. Flappie
By the way, up until these latest updates 5 & 6, I have not had any issues with DCS. Oh, I thought you had just arrived on DCS 2.5 with the stable version. From what I've seen here lately, several owners of 1080Ti encounter this "DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED" error. It seems as if DCS is making this high end card suffer a lot, when good "old" GTX 970/980 barely sigh. One of those players, sh0rty, solved his issue by changing his card settings. See here : https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3443572&postcount=6 MainSail solved the same issue by underclocking his 1080Ti : https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3437786&postcount=159 I wonder why you didn't encounter this error in previous 2.5 updates, but you should give these solutions a go. Bingo41
Flappie, Prior to these latest updates I had a very stable DCS system flying both in VR and 2D. Something definitely changed. I checked the first link and made sure I did these two items: -Power Management --> Prefer Maximum Performance -Virtual Reality Pre-Rendered Frames --> 1 I did update to the latest WHQL driver 391.35, and the problem still exists. Bingo41
Flappie
To my knowledge, there was no "update 6". The last thing that got updated was the... updater. Hence the "minor" update you saw. As seen in the log file you sent us, the game crashed as it was creating the shaders. Could you upload your most recent dcs.log file? I'd like to see if the crash still happens during the same process. Edited April 7, 2018 by Flappie Don't accept indie game testing requests from friends in Discord. Ever. Bingo41
Flappie, Ok, now I understand it was not a standard update. Do you want me to perform another "fresh" repair operation after deleting the DCS.Openbeta file in the Saved Games section so I can get you what you want? Thanks for Your Help, Bill Clark Bill Clark Win10, V-2004//I5-8600K 5.2GHz//Nvidia GTX 1080Ti//VRAM 11GB RAM 32GB//2TB M2.NVMe//Gigabyte Z370 Gaming 7//Corsair H115i
Flappie
Seeing you're not the only one with this problem, I'm pretty sure your game files are OK. No need to repair again, as you already did that several times. The one file I need is "C:\Users\***\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Logs\dcs.log". Bingo41
Flappie, Do you want it as an attached file or pasted into the "Quick Reply" window? Bingo41
Flappie, Here is the attached log file.............I had to convert to a .txt format for it to be accepted. If this doesn't give you what you need I will do a clean "repair." Flappie
Thank you. This time it's a little different, and that could be of help: right before the "DXGI..." error strikes (the one that means the game is unable to find your graphics card), your USB peripherals are re-discovered, as if they were gone for a few seconds. I think you should seriously consider trying another power supply unit. Your PSU could be either damaged or not powerful enough. EDIT: Don't bother with finding another PSU right now. We need to confirm my diagnostic. Download HWMonitor, unzip it, and launch it. Then launch DCS and wait for the crash. Once you're back on the desktop, look at the tensions min/max, and send us a screenshot. Edited April 7, 2018 by Flappie Don't accept indie game testing requests from friends in Discord. Ever.
