As I understand it dcs currently only uses a single core but we are promised multi core in the future this imo should be right behind the memory rewrite.while trying toreduse bandidth for multiplayer.

Have a look at task manager and how many cores are working

Like all 12 of em for me, but I'm sure those cores could work a tad harder,.. I mean 12% CPU average utilisation total. :P

Mind you I'm not sure how much of that multi core activity I see in task manager is OS or DCS derived. ;)

Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment.

two cores AFAIK.

One for sound and one for everything else.

There should be numerous threads about the subject on this very forum.

^^This.....

I have a big hog of a machine for video rendering. It uses 64 cores with hyperthreading enabled.

When I launch DCS, the main game puts one core to 100% and the sound uses about 50% on another core. The other 62 cores sit at idle.

Must be a custom commercial grade machine?

Neither Intel or md makes any processors above 10 cores and 12 cores respectfully.

And none of i know who does do that self employed work in the fields related to phto or video editing ( even for 8k rendering) have anything above the best core i7 or recent core i9 series that Intel offers for consumer market.

For them it's all about ram 64-256gb

There have been many, many threads on this topic, some of which went into extensive detail about how and why CPUs and threads work. It is not as simple as "MOAAAAR COOAAAARS". Just search "CPU usage" and you'll find literally dozens of conversations.

Here's an extremely lengthy run down as many people analysed and tested 47,000 different things, as well as extensive explanations on what any of this even means.

See my signature..... Intel Platinum, look them up on Intel's site. Not consumer level processors.

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/processors/xeon/scalable/platinum-processors.html Mine is the 8153, two of them..... I've seen up to 28 cores on these processors in the list there.

Agreed, but they were done some time ago, and ED certainly haven't announced anything.

However, a number of users (me included) are seeing a different use of CPU cores since 2.5 dropped, inferring that it's making use of available resources better.

Something that major, involving a complete rewrite of the executable, would be announced. Absence of "updated information" is typically an indication of absence of change.

There may be some fine tuning, or perhaps other factors at work which is to be expected from a new engine drop, but in the thread I linked (which is less than two months old, not an anomalous "some time ago") people reported a wide variation of behavior.
