I seem to have bitten off more than I can chew this time...I've just started playing online, and my god, it's impossible :D Just now I've had someone chasing my tail with his cannon blazing, SAMs flying within 5 feet of me and AWACS doing no favours by giving me info I can barely understand...all this while I'm locking up someone and after 3 seconds my lock breaks.

I suppose I'll learn eventually :smartass: but at the moment I could just do with some tips from you guys or maybe a squadron to take me under their wing for a bit.

I really don't know why so few play online, although I'm finding it difficult I sure couldn't have a better time offline. Flying amongst others has been a rewarding experience...my knowledge of the game has come on a lot in the last few days, and I wouldn't mind at all learning more :D

So, if there's any secrets you're in the mood for sharing, then spit it out!

Thanks in advance

Visit our TS. But in general it's very different from fighting AI - people are much more unpredictable and tricky.

Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D

He's right. It takes me several minutes to get to a waypoint and only 10sec to get shot down without knowing where it came from.

Online play is really hectic. And, while running HL, TS and lockon, you can also get lag, which makes it even worse. I get alot of Lag online, so i dont play it as often as i should. Onec I upgrade my piece of crap, then i'll probobly be doing it alot more. It's still not as much fun without structured missions. there should be more of those.

Finding people who live in your timezone or joining a squad and flying in a private server is a much nicer way to start out online. You'll be in a more supportive environment and you'll probably be flying actual missions (pubs by necessity tend to have rather generic goals). The same (or compatible) timezone is a big factor - as is what you fly.

Scatter's right. And if u go solo on Hyperlobby; keep ECM off until being locked then blink it until enemy loses lock. And don't be fooled by the most simple bait strategy in the book. If 2 are lagging behind and 1 is coming right at ya eventually that one will turn around and the two laggers will get you. I must say shooting all three down was a memorable experience for me. You should use TS but in my experience most public servers TS channels aren't used alot.

Well I flew against you and if that was your first attempt you did pretty well. Imagine what you would be like if you did some training with an online Sqn. Good Effort. Where in the world are you from?

skinners...yeah I know the feeling :( lol, just take off again!:pilotfly:

Bat...I'm in the UK. And I actually evaded a few shots from one of your guys the other night. But that was before he shot me down with an AIM-120 at short range which I missed in my confusion :music_whistling:

A quick question about the AWACS. When it tells you the heading, what should I be following on the heading on the HUD? At the moment I'm dividing the heading AWACS give me by ten and following that, so if there are bandits at 274, I follow 27 on the HUD scale thingy. Hope that wasn't as confusing to you as it was to me :P

Another question, what does Angels Low High (or variants) mean? Does it mean (complete guess) friendlies low bandits high?

Thanks for all the help given :) real help, thanks.

Angels represents Altitude. Angels High I think you will find is above 18,000 feet or thereabouts.

The other way "Angels" is describes is as 1000's of feet. For example "Angels 10" is 10,000 feet.

When I flyed online, it was hard when I started, after few actions and after few meetings with known pilots, I was able to expect next steps of pilots. It is all about training. And also about tactics. Now I am lets say "retired" and it is so easy to shot me down during fly with SVK or with other pilots. Also I am influenced by AI because most of present time I am flying campaigns with SVK.

Ref the heading, if he says 275 then go 275. There is a box below the HUD tape where you can get it precise.

I`m also in the UK so If I see you we should go and have a bit of a lesson. Get yourself a mic and download Teamspeak then we can talk to each other. Makes life a little easier when flying.

All the best.

No 275...? That's why I'm dividing by 10 all the time lol.

Another question, might make your day this one

How do you know which way to taxi? Yesterday I taxied what must have been the wrong way, after a while ended up at the wrong end of the runway, and me, thinking all was fine, asked permission for takeoff. Lucky I did lol, someone was coming straight down towards me, only just managed to avoid collision

As for TS, I've got it and a mic so should be around tonight all going well.

hahaha. Yeah thats a classic. It takes some time and familiarity with the airfields, but wha I do is look in the distance in the general direction and look for the vehicles that provide the lights at the end of the runway.

Just for future reference. On the 169th server at least. the rules for the runway is "Keep Left unless overtaking" This means nose wheel on the white line when rearming... and yes if its safe you may take off from the taxi way.

Don't take off from the taxi way! thats so anoying. I'm powereing up and some random MiG-29 comes speeding down the taxiwat infront of me. Not only is this unrealistic, but dangerous to other players.

You can in the 169th. But make sure you follow the Green Cross Code.

Its a secret code created in WWII that only a select few now know. If you follow this rule then harm shall never come your way.

Hahaha. Brilliant. Nice one Centurian. But yeah hes right.

Ah in the russian aircraft I see. Why divide? Surely add a 0 on the end?

You can call for clearance to taxi. The runway given when compared to the heading you are facing (in your parking spot) will usually make it apparent which way to go. A couple of airports are more complicated, so not quite as effective. Take Rugg's shot of Maykop for example.

MANY bases in the theatre have a similar layout. If you spawn in and you're facing oh... looks like about 310 or so. You call for taxi- the tower responds go to '22'. Look at your HSI and note the direction of 22 and you know your takeoff run is "dataway" (left) so I need to taxi "disaway" (right) :D

maykop.jpg

Now if you spawn in on the other side of the taxiway and now your facing 130 or so... well .. first- don't drink so much when you fly... ....:drink:

hey I didn't say it was Perfect!
