If I try to use deferred shading the game will crash or my computer will crash. Is there a way around it? Without deferred shading everything is in a lot lighter shade so I would really appreciate any help.

I found it must be a memory problem. I flew my Mirage in free flight with deferred shading on. But if I try and load one of the a10 missions it will crash dcs with deferred shading on.

go into advanced system properties and change your page file size from windows controlled to the same size as your ram and try again.

the auto controlled pagfile can be too small.

and DCS can still crash.

also in the game reduce the pre load distance to a small number.

this will require less ram. and reduce loading times.

ehrm...do i get this right, the open beta enforces deferred shading from now on? My graphics card can't handle that (amd 7870 with 2gb vram) and used to fly nttr with deferred shading off. Maybe enforcing this right now was not the smartest move when gpu prices are still up in the sky. The started to come down, but its still a bit to high for my maste atm.

Unfortunately ED can not wait any longer, having two shading types was creating more problems than it was solving.

Deferred shading is here to stay. Improvements are coming.

just tested this once more. Without deferred shading my 7870 on nttr with almost everything on high or better runs pretty smooth with 30fps in the Vegas area and 45 to 60 elsewhere. Even with drastically lowered settings (medium mostly) i get 18fps in Vegas and just below 30 elsewhere. The Vram is just packed to the brim and those 30 fps that feel very smooth with DS off stutter pretty bad when DF is enabled. Its just that damn 2gb vram limit. Anyway, i guess i am stuck on 2.5.0 for the time being until i buy a new gpu. Can't buy nvidia for the forseeable future,....not after that anti consumer and probably outright illegal Geforce Partnership Program (remember Intel like 10 years back)! And AMD still needs to deliver after the promising Ryzen comeback on the gpu side as well.

My gtx770 also has only 2gb ram and I’m fine with deferred shading on. How much system ram do you have? I have 16gb

yep, 16, no SSD, is that anti aliasing issue that we had when deferred shading was first released a thing of the past or do we still need to disable that in the gpu drivers and as well as in game?

AA off or very low if you can’t live without it

Minimum system requirements (LOW graphics settings): OS 64-bit Windows 7/8/10; DirectX11; CPU: Intel Core i3 at 2.8 GHz or AMD FX; RAM: 8 GB (16 GB for heavy missions); Free hard disk space: 60 GB; Discrete video card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 / AMD R9 280X or better; requires internet activation.

AMD 7970 GHz Ed = AMD R9 280X = AMD R9 380X

You are running a 7870 which is below a 7970 GHz Edition by about 45%

And RX570 / RX580 would offer significant performance increase over that 7870, for $300 or less

haha wow, what a big noob i have been, disabling 4xmsaa did the trick, same fps but with DF enabled. Wow, good i remembered that there was something going on with AA and DF back then. It seems 2xmsaa works fine as well. Got to go back to those AA threads and re-read what the best setup was.

@ricktoberfest Do you use ingame DCS Msaa or do you have this disabled and use the gpu drivers AA solution?

I’ll have to look, but if I do have it on it’s in game and only 2x. I’ve been away from the game for a month or so waiting for updates and “life”

Compulsory DS is not a good move at all for VR.. Why drop my FPS from 60 + down into the 30s for no good reason?

Based on performance and visuals I am experiencing it was much better without it.

2.5.1 with DS is working well for me in VR, 45fps on the ground, 60-90 in the air, although I still get some weird graphics occasionally.

I absolutely agree

And not only for VR.

Well it sucks my issue is still there.

I can fly with max settings and deferred shading on with my F-5 or Mirage, SU-25 or FW-190, but the game crashes every time I try to fly my A-10C. What is up with that???

Now in 2.5.1, Deferred Shading forcefully on killed DCS for me.

I'm not able to play with it on. I have a pair of GTX 770s. The performance drop with DS on, and the jagged edges because I have to turn MSAA off are too much.

It was fine in 1.5, and very much playable in 2.5.0 with DS off. No crashes or any major problems related to memory etc. I have 32 GB RAM, SSD. But 20 fps full of jaggies when trying to fly a helo low among buildings and trees and wavy power lines and speedgrowing trees is just awful.

I'm not even buying the Gulf or F18 anymore, because I think I won't be able to play them in my current rig. Which I unfortunately don't have plans on upgrading anytime too soon, given the current price on gfx cards.

So yeah I'm kissing DCS goodbye for a while. Until everything is fixed at least. Can't even just go back to 2.5.0 or 1.5 and keep playing alone in my corner, as all I play DCS in is multiplayer.

Meanwhile, I'll just go play other games, like ArmA 3 or Star Citizen... that run much better visuals and fps on the same hardware.
