Guppy Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 In the Early Access guide step 8 it states: 8. Turn on the power to both DDIs, MPCD and HUD. Select the FCS page on the left DDI and the BIT page on the right DDI. |INSTRUMENT PANEL| However in step 18 it states: 18. While holding up the FCS BIT switch [Y] on the right wall, press the FCS OSB on the BIT / FCS page at the same time. I assume the right DDI is what we use to do this, is that correct since we have not navigated away from that bit page. Additionally, what does this action do? Anyone know? I saw Jabbers video on starting the hornet and he completely skips this. My Simpit Progress and Update Learn how to build a SimPit like mine: Follow my Blog here!
cbclark16 Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 When on the BIT page click the OSB for FCS and it will take you to another page for the FCS and MC systems. On the top left of that page you will see FCS. If you hold 'Y' and press this at the same time it will run an I-BIT for the FCS. It is an initiated built in test. It tests the flight controls to make sure they are operating correctly. If you look out to your wings you will see everything moving around.

ApacheDoctor Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 Does this take care of the rest? How do we get the rest of the BITS to clear? That's been a question I have been wondering about since I bought the thing, is how do we clear all of the bits. Is it a functionality thing and not everything has been cleared out yet?

That's been a question I have been wondering about since I bought the thing, is how do we clear all of the bits. Is it a functionality thing and not everything has been cleared out yet? Correct. Not everything is implemented, so not all the BIT work. You can stop them flashing by presing the "stop" OSB on the BIT page.
ApacheDoctor Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 Correct. Not everything is implemented, so not all the BIT work. You can stop them flashing by presing the "stop" OSB on the BIT page. Thanks, that's what I thought.
ARM505 Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 I actually love the way this plane is like a real plane that has bits not installed yet, it's like a prototype that can be flown and all the mechanical bits are there, but half the avionics functions don't work because they haven't physically installed all the boxes or something. A real WIP feeling of a real test aircraft. :)
Khamul Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 I have one more from my side: with the battery start up, once the APU is on, seems is not energizing the radio until the right engine is on, so in the case of the ATC call for startup approval I should use the ground power, am I correct? Archer_111 Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 How do the Blue Angels start up their jets before doing airshows? Do they skip any steps? How about for Hornets on Alert 5 on board of carriers IRL?
Spealunker Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 Alert 5 Aircraft are already on, pilot in-seat sitting on the alert CAT. As for the blue angels I don't know for sure but I doubt they take any shortcuts, they have a time table and could build the time for a full startup into it. To skip steps could lead to missing errors that put lives on the ground in jeopardy. How do the Blue Angels start up their jets before doing airshows? Do they skip any steps? cbclark16 Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 ATC does not care when you start up. They only care if you are going to be taxiing/departing.

I can feel the angst for Hornet pilots on Alert 5, since they will reach Bingo Fuels quite fast with both engines running while they are waiting :( .
Archer_111 Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 I hope to see some of our DCS pilots here will match or even beat the start up times of the Blue Angels teams soon :) . Their Hornets have had their radars, canons, pylons... removed though. I bet their Angry Betty and BIT would not be very happy about that. Ouch, ouch.
Fakum Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 Back in the 80's, none of the alert 5's were ever running. Pilots were in the seat reading with a Huffer unit attached and tractor driver manned. Parked at the CAT just short of the launch bar reaching the shuttle. Never exceeded the 5 min launch when called for. Archer_111 Posted June 4, 2018 Posted June 4, 2018 (edited) The YouTube clip above doesn't seem to show the Blue Angels did their FCS-BIT's at El Centro NAF this year, which was their first airshow in 2018. Edited June 4, 2018 by Archer_111

Their Hornets have had their radars, canons, pylons... removed though. I bet their Angry Betty and BIT would not be very happy about that. Ouch, ouch. I am not sure if the the radars are removed. The weigh would have to be added to balance the aircraft. I know for the Thunderbirds the use the gun bay to store the oil used for the smoke, maybe is the same for the Blue Angels. Also, I do not think they do any of the checks on the demo line, they probably do the checks at the end of runway (EOR) like many other demo teams do. That would explain why they keep the spare aircraft at the end of runway. To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Thank you for you patience. Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..

Maybe the pilot co-ordinates with the ground crew, and they speak to the tower?
