Pilotasso Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Nope, but what a nice OS mac has, its pretty to look at. :D .
dodger42 Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Hey Mikoyan, mate I wish it did work on Mac. . . . Lockon Advanced Realism with Touch-Buddy
mikoyan Posted April 16, 2007 Author Posted April 16, 2007 I bougt it for my school (I was forced to do it,), and I was wondering if it will work(it is a mac with an intel dualcore ), and yes it looks good. So then I need to install windowsxp on it right?
Pilotasso Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 You might want to have a dual OS boot, but you have to ask someone esle because i never had it, always 1 OS for me and it sticks. .
Arthonon Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Mikoyan, I have never done it myself, but I am pretty sure you'll need to set up BootCamp, and then buy a copy of Windows XP and install it (I'm not sure if an OEM version will work, though). I'm not sure how it will perform, particularly video performance.
britgliderpilot Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 With Boot Camp and Windows XP there is no reason why it shouldn't work - and indeed the Core 2 Duo seems to perform very well with Lomac. You might experience graphics card issues, though . . . . Macs aren't gaming machines, so don't usually come with powerful graphics cards. Where they do come with conventional graphics cards, they're often underclocked as regards the PC version. So yes, you could do it, but it would have to be a real labour of love . . . . http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
Aeroscout Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 I dont know. I dont like Macs at all. I have seen screenshots of lockon running on Macs, but i dont know how to do it. Your best bet is to install XP. other than that, I have no idea. Aeroscout Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 yup, that prety much describes a mac. Civil_Genius Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Mac sucks ass and so is the lack of games for that sucky ass Mac.
VMFA-Blaze Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Mac is a very expensive system.. And yes you can run Lock On on it... But not with the Mac O/S... You can install Vista and run Lock On with that on a dual boot... The problem with this is you really have to know what you're doing as Vista is a new system and you'll have to search for drivers that are compatible.. I'm somewhat impressed with Mac these days its gotten a lot better then it was.. But honestly... I personally wouldn't buy one, at least not for now... ~S~ Blaze intel Cor i7-6700K ASUS ROG MAX VIII Extreme G.Skill TridentZ Series 32 GB Samsung 850 Pro 1TB SATA II ASUS GTX 1080/DIRECTX 12 Windows 10 PRO Thrustmaster Warthog Oculus Rift VR
Anytime Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Your all living in the dark ages, Mac laptops are approximately the same cost as the equivelent dell machines, if not cheaper, and yes you can dual boot using boot camp. It's very simply follow the link. http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/ You can even run windows xp seemlessly in os x, but the 3d graphics cards are not yet supported, sooon though. Then no more dual booting. http://www.parallels.com/ And where is can you get 8 cores of xeon goodness with any of the following cards NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT (256MB), ATI Radeon X1900 XT (512MB), and NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 (512MB). You can even run up to 4 7300 cards!! What did you get btw? The only laptop that will not run so great is the macbook line (intel950), they don't have the latest mobile gfx cards from ATI or Nvidia. May be ok though.
Zuki Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 There are a couple programs I know of that will let you run windows ..how lockon will run is a different story.Virtual PC Open OSX [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "Zuki" Resident mud mover CH HOTAS untill it breaks(for life)! crazyeddie Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 My brother assures me the latest Mac has their operating system on it, AND Windows, you can switch easily between the 2 he claims - might be worth checking out, not seen it myself yet.
graywo1fg Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 What wonderful opinions on macs you all have O.o !!! i just got a mack book pro laptop with an Intel core 2 duo E6600 and an Nvidia 8600GS or GT whatever and 2 gigs of RAM. Its absolutly amazing!! i had to get it for the same reason Mikoyan did because of school. we have to get macks because i am in schooling to become a sound engineer and Protools and other sound software that is leet runs on mac... but we have to put windows on it because we have to learn Sony vegas pro 8 :) So it will be very easy to put games on my mac with XP on it using Boot camp utility. under the skin of my mac it is basicaly like any other laptop out there only with mac operating system. that is one of the only things that differs it from other laptops. its the same hardware. i will defiantly be playing games on my mac and it will probably run almost equal to my desktop computer because the hardware is very alike. In my opinion i really did not like macs until i got one but they are becoming more equal if you think. there is nothing different than my mac and a Dell XPS exept for the operating system. britgliderpilot Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 there is nothing different than my mac and a Dell XPS exept for the operating system. Shh - don't say that out loud, someone might hear you! ;) My brother's got a 17" Macbook Pro for similar reasons, and I have to say it's magnificent. You do pay a fairly hefty premium for the privilege of the design, the badge, and OSX . . . but that's down to individual taste and wallet size. And with Vista and unimaginative PC design the way they are the moment, Apple's starting to make a rather good argument. Beware that the Macbooks DO have underclocked graphics cards - you can clock them back up again once you've got WinXP on, but apparently the reason they're usually underclocked is a potential cooling issue at full speed. Just so's you know. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg

Mugatu Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 Thought that was the case for 1st issue Macbook Pro's like mine, all others were/are full speed. britgliderpilot Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 Thought that was the case for 1st issue Macbook Pro's like mine, all others were/are full speed. . . . it's possible I'm out of date here . . My understanding is that it's the case for the X1600 Macbook Pro. But they've changed the graphics chip recently . . . let me check. edit - the Mac forums seem to have tested this and are reporting that while clock speeds are low in 2D applications, when you launch a game they go up to the standard levels. . . . . which is exactly what you'd do if it was underclocked anyway, so it's all good! I still wouldn't buy a Mac as a gaming machine yet, but they'll do at a pinch. Which is plenty good enough for most :) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
graywo1fg Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 I cant wait to get XP loaded onto my mac. i'm anxious to see how games will run.
