Direwolf Posted June 14, 2018 Posted June 14, 2018 I would like to know how the trim buttons work, because I am not feeling their effectiveness during the flight! Do I need to keep it the pressed until I get the desired correction, or have to press the button repeated times to get the effect?
Ulfr85 Posted June 14, 2018 Posted June 14, 2018 The Hornet Trims extremly slow, just Look at the MFD FCS Page to get a feeling for how slow it is. F/A-18C, AV-8B, Huey, Ka-50, Mig-21, A10C, FC3, BF-109, M2000C, AJS-37, P-51 Ryzen 5 2600 ~4Ghz, 16GB DDR4 3200Mhz, EVGA GTX 1070

During approach, flaps and gear down, the manual trim hat on the stick functions to help achieve on-speed AOA.
DDSSTT Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 Took me forever to figure it out reading through the tons of posts and trail and error... What I've learned: 1. FCS Page is your best friend for Trim 2. Trim is very slow, watch it move on the FCS Page 3. T/O Trim sets trim stabs to 12° Nose Up 3. Cycling flaps from Full - Half - Auto, resets T/O Trim 4. Setting Full Flaps & T/O on carrier launch will throw M/C Check Flaps 5. Check Checklist Page for current weight & Check FCS Page for current Stab Trim 6. Carrier Takeoff is always 16° or greater Nose Up depending on weight (<44,000lbs - 16°, 45,000 - 48,000lbs 17°, >49,000lbs - 19°) 7. Small corrections in Trim take a second or two it really be noticable 8. If you think you need to hold the Trim for 1 sec to see the desired effect, Trim for 0.5 sec and wait the other 0.5 sec to see if that was enough 9. Finally, the Hornet should auto-trim "mostly" for On-Speed AOA but you will still have to add input This is just kinda my things I keep in the back of my head while flying... not sure if that's 100% perfect... good luck [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] http://www.csg-2.net/

Pressing the T/O trim while flying? :book:
bolek Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 But if you add trim with the trim button when in the catapult on the carrier how will this be reset? Pressing the T/O trim while flying? :book: It should reset when you set flaps to AUTO.
IvanK Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 Be aware. Trim only moves the Stabs with WOW. Airborne Trim doesn't have any direct effect on the Stabs .... it applies a bias the Flight Control system. You will only see direct Stab movement in relation to Trim on the ground or if the Flight Control system is in MECH mode. Trim rate on the ground as evidenced by the FCS display Stab movement is not representative of whats happening airborne.
HiJack Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 It should reset when you set flaps to AUTO. Tested and indeed it does.
BuLLeT.ZA Posted June 15, 2018 Posted June 15, 2018 It should reset when you set flaps to AUTO. Nice tip, thanks! Saitek X52 | 4770k@4.3GHz | MSI 1080GTX Armor OC | TrackIR 5
