Vista and LockOn Fix.

I was noodling around in Vista when I think I have discovered how to get LockOn to look great in it.

Installation:

Prior to installing, right click the setup.exe, go to properties, compatibility tab, and check the boxes for both the Run as Administrator and Run in Compatibility Mode for XP-SP2. Then install by clicking the same setup.exe. (Do this for all other programs for LockOn as well such as Loman, Modman, etc...)

Once it has installed and all of your mods are installed, go to the LockOn folder on your hard drive (normally in the C:/Program Files/ Ubisoft/Eagle Dynamics/Lock On/) and find the LockOn.exe file. Right click the LockOn.exe file, go to properties, compatibility tab, and again for this, check the boxes for Run as Administrator, Run in Compatibility for XP-SP2 and also check the box next to "Disable Desktop Composition". This last setting changes the Vista Aero scheme to the Vista Basic mode in effect disabling Aero from Vista. Once you are done flying, Vista will revert back to normal, and then the next time you go to play LockOn, it will change back automatically for you. This has fixed the disappearing cockpit and other graphic problems I had on the nVidia card system with nVidia chipset I have. I hope it works for you as well.

What kind of you had problems with Vista? Sometimes I get error that after selected a plane than clicked to FLY button, LockOn is freezing during LOADING screen. I tried XP compatible mod and so on, unfortunatelly it didnt help me. :helpsmilie:

@ torwak, i had the same problem with Vista 64 ultimate, i took the OC back a little and Freezes during Gameload seem to be gone. I must admit that i had no time to test it repeatedly, but i suspect my oced memory to be the cause.

I'll check tonight.... maybe CPU needs to get higher voltage than I use now. However game is very stable except of this loading problem which I've.

Now if only we could get the 3D Sound effect fixed. As I stated in other posts regarding Vista and LockOn :FC , the sound problem appears to be due to the fact that Vista handles sound differently than XP did, i.e. Vista does not use DirectX (DirectSound) to handle sound effects in gaming. If anyone should happen to find a fix or patch method to get it to work, please post.

Well, if you have one of the top-range models of the Creative X-Fi-soundcards (only one I know that DOESN'T work is the X-Fi Xtreme Audio-board), you CAN use the ALchemy-software (currently in beta) from Creative. It will emulate EAX under OpenAL (Vista's new sound-format).

I am mainly looking for a fix for onboard Realtek HD Audio myself. The engines afterburners sound like they are on full time. Other than that, everything else is great.

Oh nice, Realtek's latest Vista drivers fixed that last remaining sound issue in LockOn. Now everything is perfect on this nVidia 680i system with an nvidia card in it!

I increased FSB / CPU / RAM voltage a little bit but it didnt work again... so tonight I'm going to decrease my overclock level. However except of Lock-On loading problem other games works like a charm. :huh:

vista dudes, I have vista and I was planning of installing lomac on it...is it any better than on XP? is there a huge performance loss?? if yes, then I guess I'll just play on my xp partition. Thanks! :)

I actually get more FPS with Vista than in XP, on the same system ( Dual boot XP Pro and Vista 32 bit). Which why I kept working at it.

 

thereminqblank posted the driver version that fixed all of my graphics in LockOn:FC 1.12a...I'll be updating to 1.12b tonight just in case.

Same here...and now that the sound issue is fixed its better.

If you have a different sound card then Creative or Realtek, still try the ALchemy software, it may work, I dont think its card dependant.

YES! It works now! 158.18 drivers fix the problem with textures!
