Hello folks)

It's been stuck in my head for several months now and the more I think about it, the more this part of the world would make sense in the DCS environment.

The island of Taiwan has been one of the most highly probable flashpoint in the last decade and still is a high risk zone in the foreseeable future, making it an excellent potential scenario for DCS World. Here's a bit of geography:

  • Taiwan formerly known as Formose is located in East Asia
  • Taiwan is only 112 miles away from the southeastern coast of China
  • Taiwan covers an area of 13,854.3593 square miles
  • Taiwan is 245 miles long for 89 miles wide
  • Taiwan consists mostly of five rugged mountain ranges parallel to the east coast, and the flat to gently rolling plains of the western third, where the majority of Taiwan's population reside
  • There are several peaks over 11,500ft, the highest (12,966 ft)
  • The climate ranges from tropical in the south to subtropical in the north
  • The eastern mountains are heavily forested while land use in the western and northern lowlands is intensive

The reasons why I think this map would make sense is the fact that it would offer a large variety of missions, including deep strikes from mainland China and Naval Operations from carriers, the newly introduced China Assets Pack with the chinese version of the Su-27 and the upcoming JF-17 figher from Deka Ironworks, the already available taiwanese Mirage 2000, the large amount of US equipment provided to Taiwan.

Also the geography of the island would offer a tropical environment that many DCS players are asking for some time now. The island offer an important contrast between high mountains and low lands where the vast majority of the population live.

I'll attach some aerial views from the Island and an actual geopolitical map of the island. Please, feel free to look around to find more informations about the island and its current position towards China and Western countries.

Oh ! Did I say that the entire island and part of the chinese coast could fit an actual DCS map ?

i think it would be super cool but suspect it would complicate any current distribution arrangements for DCS and its modules with / within the PRC.

why has no one thought of this before actually lmao

expand the blue water part a little bit into the SCS/ECS and you would have a really, really cool theater.

Not a good idea, this area is a very sensitive political hotspot, if ED allow this developed, then all the DCS products might be banned in China. BF4 is the example, and until now the EA can't establish a simple chinese store in PRC, though Steam already have, obviously Steam is smarter.

I agree, it would make an awesome playground for DCS.

Of course you would agree. ; )

As unlikely as it is that we'll ever see a Taiwan theater, I'd also personally love it! A really interesting geography for all land/sea/air operations. Nice presentation!

Why should we care about the China Assets Pack then ? Have we ever see any chinese military intervention in any other region of the globe ? Taiwan is the most relevant theater for the current products in development IMO.

True. very good point, although as an alternative ( for whatever reason Taiwan map would be overlooked due to overblown sensitivities) i think Korean peninsula map could be another consideration.

Well, there are Chinese devs for DCS already, and inclusion of Taiwan, by itself, shouldn't be a problem for the Chinese. After all, they're not denying its existence, only the legitimacy of its government. There's no land border, so even the map doesn't have to take sides. It'd certainly be a perfect place for many modern and historical scenarios, this being a site of many low-level air combat engagements, including the time when a MiG came back to base with an early Sidewinder stuck in the fuselage.

BF4 had singleplayer content which did take sides, and that can be touchy. However, maps do not typically come with SP content.

it will be very beautiful, but I think the Chinese players will use it to dream that they are invading Taiwan, and this idea makes me feel really sick.

as much as a pro Rusian abhazian dreams of invading Georgia today... or Us players dreaming of rolling over Iran on the Hormuz map.. or Turks dreamig on invaindg Cyprus when it´s done, or Rusians dreaming of invading Syria... or Israelies dreaming of invading Jordan, Syria, lebanon etc.... ;)

The goog thing is that we can all dream whatever we like.. you can dream that the chineese go for it and Loose ;)

I trully hope this maps gets done. It would be a grate Hwat iff for the 70s and 80s, and a definate palygroundfor XXI century units we have now... it s a very plausible Hot zone.
