Online Etiquitte

some basic rules and protocols to help keep online flying fun.

Read The Briefing: ALLWAYS Read the Brief if its a map or a server you are not familiar with.

Radar:

* In Team chat (ALT+M) Call "Raygun" or "Ray" for short if you lock up a friendy. Especially if you lock them from behind. Typical reply from the person being locked is "BuddySpike" or "Bud" for short.

* Don't lock friendlies for extended periods: This only aggravates team mates and interferes severely with their Situation Awareness.

ECM:

* Minimum use of jammer. Leaving your jammer on not only makes you a target but it also confuses other friendlies and might easily get you team killed. Flying home with jammer and radar on is a sure way to get team killed.

Runway:

* look left look right look left again when moving onto a runway:

Keep Left on runways unless overtaking. Allways start on the left side.

* When youve landed to refuel, park on the very left of the runway to rearm/refuel. Put your nose wheel on the left line. Or, if you prefer, Move off the runway to the taxiway to rearm which of course is more realistic.

Carrier:

* When wanting to spawn on the Kuznetsov, Type in chat "Carrier Deck Clear?"

* If someone is on the Spawn point Respond letting them know and then move away immediately.

* Never stay on the Kuznetsov spawn point. allways take off straight away or move to another postion on the deck.

Respect Admins:

* If for instance a member of the squadron's server says you are lagging and please reconnect. Do so straight away. not after your engagement and without argument.

Feel free to add more in replies or discuss other options.

Keeping left unless overtaking and refuelling on left white line works just fine. We've been doing it for years.

Getting off the runway works just fine too ... and it's a bit more realistic

These rules or protocols are for smooth online GAMING only. Real Life is OFF TOPIC. People aren't going to bother getting off the runway to rearm. but if we all know to keep to the left there is less chance of collision.

The S77th uses the right side.

I ALWAYS taxi off onto the taxi way and circle around to the hold of the active runway and do my refuelling, rearming and repairing there, but then I'm always a ground pounder...

I totally agree, although I'm not a ground pounder, but do aerobatics and some air to air.

Ever since I flew my first mission in Flanker 2.0 I cleared the runway after I had landed, even if I fly solo missions and exit the mission afterwards.

It's not that hard if you get the hang of it ;)

Also, if you check if the runway is clear before entering it, why do you need a rule for overtaking?

If the runway is clear, then there shouldn't be anyone there to overtake ;)

Sometimes there is more then 1 person landing... in which case you do need a "hot lane"

When there are more people who want to land on the same runway, there's always the option to go around, and line up a second time.

No need to overtake anyone.

Or do you land in both directions at the same time? (which may explain the need to keep left, in order to avoid headon collisions...)

I'd have to say that even from a purely gaming point of view I agree with IK and GG. You should be getting off the runway to refuel rearm.

If you've got three or four players refuelling on the runway all you need is one inexperienced player or one player trying to land a damaged aircraft to spoil your whole evening (especially in something like Red Flag where there's no respawn).

And most importantly, LOMAC is supposed to be a simulator. And if you're wanting to simulate something you should be sticking as close as possible to real world procedures. Refuelling/rearming on an active runway is not a real world procedure.

Is there also kind of a rule for landing in both directions?

I always choose the direction proposed by the (Russian) aircraft system (Of course you need to select the airfield first)

In RL it depends also on the wind direction anyway.

You can land whereever you want, as long as there's noone on the runway.

Hell, you can even TO from taxi..though it's a lot more risky endevaour and may end in a crash (running out of road or running into someone). :D

I think this is important...

Please NO VULCHING.

I had a horrible experience against an Su25T. He "VIKHRed" me after i just rotated from the runway.

2nd attempt, just after respawn, starting my engines and then he bombed me..

3rd attempt in the server i made him eat my R-73 :D

i think it was in an RAF server..

Depends on the scenario... On a Furball server, it's generally whatever the ATC (if you can call it that) says. In matches like Red Flag, it's whatever the Team flying from that field chooses and you stick to that.

I feel for Konny's plea, but CH software isn't straight-forward enough for a dummy like me. If TS could make a PTT mappable to a DX button, then I'd be in. Until then, I'll keep cryin' 7600. :D

Pro Throttle index finger button= PTT in all 3 modes. Don't need to leave that one DX do you? Other than those with assigned scripts- none of my CH controls are mapped in DX...

Sometimes you have to land a bit everywhere. Imagine 2-3 guys sitting on the RW on different places. It's kind of like a slalom making it down alive :)

S = SPARSE(m,n) abbreviates SPARSE([],[],[],m,n,0). This generates the ultimate sparse matrix, an m-by-n all zero matrix. - Matlab help on 'sparse'

Last night I got cut off on the taxiway straight to the ramp. The kid next to me decided that he was going to take off first, even though I was allready in front of him. So what does the genius do? He kicks it in high gear and narrowly missed me on his brief dash to the runway. So while he was too busy trying to get his 25t straightened up on the runway, I straightened up my 25t into his cockpit.

Oops.

I recall coming in deadstick, and people just sat on the runway, not heeding my calls for an emergency landing. Anyway, the brakes and steering failed - I'm sure I'd have stopped by the end of the runway ... in any case, that ejection seat worked well!

So did team chat when the guy who got run over started swearing. :D

Like I said "hot lane" is required when two planes are landing at the same time... and there ARE situations when you are damaged or low on fuel that you don't have time to go around... sometimes even have to land opposite ILS. I do think people should go off the runway to rearm and refuel... but "hot lane" calls are neccessery at times and very valid.

Well its a great debate. My point is however if you make a rule that you MUST refuel/rearm OFF the Runway thats all well and good. but in reality, the majority will NOT. People want to get back in the AIR ASAP.

IMO it is wiser to make a rule that accomoodates their impatience. You then have a better chance of it being heeded.

Anyway on the 169th Dedicated at least Keep Left and you are allowed to rearm on YOUR LEFT White line of the runway.

What other servers say is allowed is up to them. Which reminds me I will add "Read The Brief to the Original List.

Posted

Maybe ED will remove the runway as a rearm/refuel zone in a patch. :)
