TekaTeka Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 Dedicated to ruggbutt and who hates the shimmering shadows. for LockOn 1.1x and 1.0x, LoMan 2.1 and ModMan compatible. Available at my site This mod removes the cloud shadows to solve the shimmering shadow problem. I know this is not the best solution to the problem, but now you have a choice at least; Shimmering shadows or No cloud shadows. It's normal "Structure Lights Mod" is stated as "Not installed" when this mod is installed. 4 TekaTeka from Japan [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Visit my site Beyond Visual Range.
Black_Hawk Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 You're really fast! Another rep from me (if I can give you more :P) 159th GAR LockOnFiles CAW Team

PythonOne Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 So does this mean, (for nvidia users) that we can have full shadows, but no dark shardow bug?
graywo1fg Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 Python i get that bug too. but i have an ATI 2900 :P Voice of Jester AI Death From Above =DFA= Squadron Discord - https://discord.gg/deathfromabove http://www.twitch.tv/graywo1f https://www.youtube.com/user/Lonewo1fg
TekaTeka Posted July 4, 2007 Author Posted July 4, 2007 So does this mean, (for nvidia users) that we can have full shadows, but no dark shardow bug? I can not confirm because my video card is ATI, but I don't think this solves the dark aircraft surface problem. TekaTeka from Japan [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Visit my site Beyond Visual Range.
graywo1fg Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 is there a way so solve the problem? Voice of Jester AI Death From Above =DFA= Squadron Discord - https://discord.gg/deathfromabove http://www.twitch.tv/graywo1f https://www.youtube.com/user/Lonewo1fg
Highwayman-Ed Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 Again, another nice mod TekaTeka, but I must be one of the few people that don't seem to have problems with the cloud shadows, I'll keep mine thanks  Intel i9-9900KF @5.2GHz MSI Z390 Gaming Pro Carbon 32GB G.Skill Trident Z DDR3200 RAM MSI RTX 2080 Ti Gaming X Trio 40" Panasonic TH-40DX600U @ 4K Pimax Vision 8K Plus / Oculus Rift CV1 / HTC Vive Gametrix JetSeat with SimShaker Windows 10 64 Bit Home Edition [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Kuky Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 hm.. crappy lines or no cloud shadows? I don't like either of them but somehow I feel no shaddows in game makes it look bit sterile :noexpression: No longer active in DCS...
TekaTeka Posted July 5, 2007 Author Posted July 5, 2007 I think the problem is based on the wrong selection of the mipmap levels. See these pictures. I made a test cloud texture each mipmap level has different color and I got these colored bars. The mipmap levels should be selected based on the surface size and angle on the screen. But the above pictures tell they are not now. I think the current angle equation has some mistakes. The current calculation returns correct answers only when the camera roll against the terrain is zero. Even a slight roll offset from zero is causing the problem. Because this happens only on the cloud shadows, the cause of the problem must be in the LockOn side of the codes of the shaders. If this was the video driver or DirectX issue, we should have same type of problems everywhere. 1 TekaTeka from Japan [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Visit my site Beyond Visual Range.
Colt40Five Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 Maybe now that you've identified the cause ED can track it down and squash it in LOBS...thanks for your work. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Kuky Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 That's an great testing/research/path-to-solution Teka... I hope ED is reading this and fix it if possible :noexpression: No longer active in DCS...
idonno Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 OK, so why don't I have shadows under my clouds? I haven't installed this mod. I.D.
Kaptein_Damli Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 OK, so why don't I have shadows under my clouds? I haven't installed this mod. I.D. Check if you have shadows activated on "full" and not "active planar" or something. My moviemaking channel at YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/RobertDamli
idonno Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 Yeah, I should have mentioned I've had all the graphics settings set to max, and the Shadows are currently set to Full, and still no cloud shawdows. I.D.

theGozr Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 It's too bad many want to get rid of the shade under the clouds Clouds with no shade is not really good.. FPS wised i can't tell.. but i'm not for that mod at all. Fly it like you stole it..

RvEYoda Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Great, will definitely use this mod :) S = SPARSE(m,n) abbreviates SPARSE([],[],[],m,n,0). This generates the ultimate sparse matrix, an m-by-n all zero matrix. - Matlab help on 'sparse'
GunSlingerAUS Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Check the readme included in the zip for details. I checked the readme, and it states: "This mod will remove flickering shadows and dancing shadows on the horizon in DCS Black Shark. Backup your original CLOUDSHADOW.TGA file before installing. You will find this inside the \[Ka-50 directory]\Bazar\Terrain\Surface\LandTexturesTGA.cdds file. This mod is based on the Teka Teka mod from Lock On." I can see the cdds file... but how do I see the .tga file within this .cdds file? sniffer Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Use ModMan CDDS Explorer to extract CLOUDSHADOW.TGA to Your HDD (recommended backup), next in the same windows insert new file from the mod. That's all... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
ECV56_Finger Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Sniffer, If you allow me, I prefer to copy the file (CLOUDSHADOW.TGA) to TempTextures instead of start messing with the CDDS files until we are 110% that won´t mess up your instalation. Old habits with FC 1.0 and Modman :music_whistling:  GunSlingerAUS, just copy the CLOUDSHADOW.TGA into your Bazar/TempTextures dir and it will work for now. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
sniffer Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Good point! BTW. Included readme IIRC recommending the same... Basically both options are right :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
