phil106ci Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 When I try to launch an AMG65E missile, JTAC gives me weird coordinates and I am unable to figure out how to convert them in long/lat.… I know that, for Mirage 2000C, there is a mode, nato.lua which exists but it does not look like working for F18.... I really need help and learning here, Thanks in advance
Sandman1330 Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 JTAC is giving you MGRS, or military grid reference system, which is more accurate than lat/long. In 10 figure format, it’s accurate down to 1 meter. The Hornet will have the ability to input waypoints in MGRS, it’s just not implemented yet. In the meantime, what I do is find the MGRS using the F10 map (use left alt+y to change the coord format in the map). For AGM65E, it’s sufficient to just look at the map then reference that to landmarks outside the cockpit and get a general idea of the target area, as the maverick will lock on the laser for precision guidance as long as you point it in the right area. When more precision is required, such as with bombs/rockets or when we get the TGP, once I’ve located the spot on the F10 map using MGRS, I will use left alt+y to change into lat/long and copy the coords off the map, then I put them into the hornet system as a waypoint. phil106ci Posted January 3, 2019 Author Posted January 3, 2019 Thanks Sandman for this efficient reply, would you explain me in details this left alt+y procedure? I just don't know what it's all about and how to make it…Or do I just have to type left alt+y under F10 map to get MGRS converted in long/lat ? Thanks again
Sandman1330 Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 Yup, that easy. In the top bar of the F10 menu, it shows the coords of your mouse pointer. Just use LAlt+y to change the format of those coords. phil106ci Posted January 3, 2019 Author Posted January 3, 2019 Just had a quick test doom, sounds like a very good help, maybe I was not accurate enough, there are a few differences, anyway , just great, thanks again
Hekktor Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 be aware hornet uses degrees decimal minutes format for lat long koords NOT degrees minutes seconds manual p. 112 is a picture...
gekoiq Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 be aware hornet uses degrees decimal minutes format for lat long koords NOT degrees minutes seconds manual p. 112 is a picture... You must enter in the coordinates as Degrees Minutes Seconds, but it converts and displays them as Decimal Minutes.
Hekktor Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 ah, gekoiq, thank you for clarification! my bad. enter them as stated (degrees minutes seconds! - just I can not believe why that would be in the real thing - wip? Or do they usually only use mgrs we will get later?)
Tholozor Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 Here gents, I've got a mod: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=224773 You can choose between DMS, DDM, or a mix of the two to be displayed after the MGRS coordinates. Also includes some other fixes/additions. The Hornet will be able to input MGRS coordinates at a later time.
