I've viewed many training movies and tracks but I'm wondering if there are any on dogfighting. For example, in the merge, what techniques are used to get behind an enemy aircraft when you're in that turning/scissor situation. I'm an intermediate pilot and am successful in most missions, but dogfighting is my weakest area and I'd like to learn more. Any links to pages or movies would be helpful. Thanks.

There are several ways to merge well in a guns only engagement. This is one.

Brackishwater, the best way to learn, is to pract against human IA suck really ;)

if you like dogfight come on HL and ask for some =RvE= pilots to fly with ya , we will be free to hlp ya, if you dont have time, the less crap IA pilot on Lock on is mirage, fly against it(pick 40% and give him 50-55%)

you ll find some good stuff like dat, but i repeat come against human

HL is the way to go. But make sure you read up on how to make connections before you join up. Will speed up your ability to get into games without having to ask a bunch of questions.

Hey Ice, when are you able to fly next? I want to shoot you down some. :)

I dont need to be the best in guns anymore. That was a long time ago. I find it much more satisfying winning the "Black Sea Battles"

As for the 90AoA yes its wrong but the diagram explains it just fine.

Seeing as this has become some sort of debate on a particular tactic. Specifically the merge. YorZor has come in here bagging a tactic which at least in the past was effective and a good merge for a new guy to learn. By no means is it the only merge but to give you an even start or maybe an advantage over a good pilot it can work very well.

Before you watch these tracks and make a judgement bear in mind the point of this excercise. The merge only.

There is no doubt that YorZor is a better dogfighter in guns than I am and maybe even ever was. He flies guns most days and has great skills. I on the other hand rarely do any gunzo any more and to be effective in the energy fight requires alot of practice to keep in form.

however I challenged =RvE=Yorz to a few rounds. Normally I would mix it up and use lots of different tactics not just the same one but I was only trying to demonstrate the effectiveness of this particular one.

We had 7 bouts I only won 1. But more imprtantly at least 4 of the 7 I had the advantage early on and lost it due to poor energy management.

here are the tracks. I will not debate this any further. This is simply for new guys wanting to learn guns to make up their mind whether the Animated Gif is worth taking notice of. I firmly believe it is.

All dogfighters will agree that dogfights are fluid and no one set of moves will be able to get you then win.

This gif does show one option on the merge.

You should research BFM and understand what you jet can't and can do. Then practice vs Human opponents. The AI is good but not good enough.

1st Rule of Presentation is know your audience and pitch your talk at the right level for them. The original poster laid out his experience and Ice replied with a cool little montage that elegantly explained a useable tactic (2nd Rule of Presentation - a picture is worth a thousand words). Generally speaking there is no standart merge technique. It depends on lots of things. I came to realize that it all comes with the practice, especially against the proper opponents. Before I join the =RvE= I thought I had some gunzo skills... Well I was proved wrong pretty fast :D Then I started to learn it all over, and still learning...

I want to see this track ^^

Hmm not bad at all.

I think you and me would be a pretty even fight if you're ever up for it.

Yorz beats me too, but you're right, in some rounds here you had the advantage, but you need to practice that aiming :)

:DGunz, I would like to do a squadron exchange for a couple of weeks and join up with the RvE guys so as I can pwn their sorry asse...I mean so as they can show me how to shoot the gun better.

I think 'Gunz and =RvE=' go hand in hand in the same way that 'sex appeal and cool shades' goes with (504).

So if you guys show me better gunz i'll show you how tobe sexy.:ufo:
