I have found my keyboard numberpad very useful for UFC entry with TrackIr . I have a Rift on the way , and am considering alternatives for that function . One such is a discrete (preferably oversized) numberpad . Will DCS recognise it as well as the keyboard and allow UFC entry functions ?

Other options are a Razor Tartarus , which will be recognised as a game controller , but with which I have QC reservations , or a mouse with 12 extra buttons on the side .

I guess what i'm asking is , will DCS recognise a second ASCI ll device with a separate column in the controls setup screen ?

Just using your current keyboards numpad isnt an option?

I use my keyboards numpad in VR, no problem. Dont need to see it. I can see on the given planes display/UFC if I hit the wrong number.

Thanks for the reply . I would prefer to use the left hand for numberpad entry if possible .

I have a Logitech gaming keyboard that has two rows of G keys on the left hand side, comes in handy. I use the Logitech software to assign commands to them.

I have one of these posted to the left of my throttle. Logitech G13. The thumbstick can act as a joystick, or you can map it to keybinds. Every key on the g13 can be mapped to keyboard strokes.

Afaik DCS will see inputs from two different keyboards as one keyboard input. Could be mistaken, but with the use of modifiers (default modifiers are lcrtrl, rctrl, lshift, rshift, lwin, rwin) you can have a pretty much endless amount of keyboard commands, making something with reprogrammable keys like the g13 pretty nifty. Personally I just assign the default keystrokes to the keys I want to use on the g13 using LGS. Works excellent as a button box.. might take some muscle memory development but my hand is pretty comfortable finding my way around it without having to remove my HMD.

My Ka-50 setup using this involves using the keyboard numpad for the countermeasures panel, and the g13 as the weapon targeting panel, home-pgdn keys above the arrow keys as the auto-pilot panel. Pretty awesome. In most other aircraft I mainly use it for an easy place to put something like the landing gear or whatever else I don't have room on the hotas for. In another sim I fly in I assign keystrokes for radiators/cowl flaps to the thumbstick. In the viggen I use it for the radar stick. Can create and switch between as many profiles as you want to set up, and each has the potential for 3 bindings per key using the m1-m3 buttons.

The g4, g10, g11, and g12 keys have circle indents for a tactile feel of where you are on the g13 (same shape as WASD or arrow keys with an indent), which might help with a left handed numpad. I have used the keyboard numpad for the Harrier and Hornet UFC numpad.

Yup, gaming pads are DX buttons so there is no issues with the keyboard. Generic keyboards will be treated the same. There is this work:

So one could manage two "regular" keyboards. But I'm not sure how active it is. it's pretty simple so I imagine Windows won't interfere with the remapper.

That aint ugly. That's smart cooling.

actually, if the case is set up right, cooling is more efficient when fully closed with all lids.

A quasi open-bench motherboard stand needs things a bit differently, the top fan should i.e. blow downwards to cool the VRM area as their is virtually now airlfow that would cool them.

The only benefit is that any AIB GPU with blower style fans, like any but the former Nvidia and AMD ref. designs are, will not heat up the case, which again would only happen if your exhaust is too weak.

But hey, i have been there too with my PII-266 @ 287.5 MHz,I had to take the panel off and place a 20" fan in front of it to cool the beast, with Voodoo SLI + Matrox + SCSI + ISDN + Sound = 5 x AIC's. ..yeah back then nothing was onboard and all those cards were bulky, the IDE and SCSI cables were 2" wide and 2 feet long, man, that was a mess. Fans were nothing you really thought of, also PSU was a minor part, who thought of a PSU being an important part until it failed, nobody.

Solution, dress like an eskimo and use the power of air conditioning to get your ambient temps to the 40's or lower.

OP: yes. It works. Don't forget to unmap 5 in the UI layer, unless you want to keep using it to center view.
