Rukus Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 Hi guys. Just wanted to pass on my experiences with VR and see what others are doing. I only fly DCS with VR. The sim does a good job with VR and it is a incredible experience. I'm a older man (60) and have been into computers since the late 70's. My Gaming started in 1980. Graphics have come a loooong way since then. Been flying simulators since the first ones came out. The VR experience is incredible and very immersive. The only issue i have is that the resolution is a bit low. I end up flying missions with tags turned on using the Dot option. Without the dot option, seeing missles flying at you are very hard to see as well as seeing a mig 6 to 8 miles away. Ground attack is also difficult as seeing the ground targets is hard. I was wondering if others have to use this option as well? I suspect that VR will move on to higher resolution, however the graphics cards will have to get allot more powerful and more expensive. Heck a good graphics card is approaching $1k now lol.
Harlikwin Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 I use dots. New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. Svsmokey Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 You're in good company . VR is revolutionary for flightsims but it is yet in its infancy . Lots of people use dot labels , given current resolutions . We in particular may be advantaged in its use given starting simming on VGA monitors :) 9700k @ stock , Aorus Pro Z390 wifi , 32gb 3200 mhz CL16 , 1tb EVO 970 , MSI RX 6800XT Gaming X TRIO , Seasonic Prime 850w Gold , Coolermaster H500m , Noctua NH-D15S , CH Pro throttle and T50CM2/WarBrD base on Foxxmounts , CH pedals , Reverb G2v2
dburne Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 Yep I use the dot option also, I fly in single player only. Been using my Rift since Jan 15 2017, have not gone back to monitor since. The tech is in early stages still, it will only improve with time. Lot more players in it now also which is good., Btw what VR headset are you using? ElementLT Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 along with dots - As soon as I pop in my contacts it makes my who VR experience that much better. Took me weeks to figure out that If I wear glasses or contacts in the real world I would also need to in VR. Coming Soon... The Fraternity Returns : https://thefraternitysim.com/
Nooch Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 I don't use labels but it's true that it can be difficult to see other airplanes around. Once you've acquired them though, it's easier to keep an eye on them thanks to the wider field of view and 1:1 head tracking all around you. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Rukus Posted March 1, 2019 Author Posted March 1, 2019 Thanks guys....i just wanted to know if this was the exception or its more common. I was a pilot, however my Resolution in the cockpit then was way better than in VR lol ;)
DeltaMike Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 I was terrible at spotting a/c in real life so Oculus seems about right. Personally I think it's kinda handy to keep a zoom button mapped on the throttle. We are the same age. We should form a squadron. GTFreeFlyer Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 Search for “Spotting mod for VR users” or something like that. It’s the same dot label, but appears at much more realistic distances. It’s hardly detectable at all, but just enough to make it seem realistic. You’ll have to play around with the LUA file a little to enable it for ground targets as well, or I suppose I can send you mine if you want to try it out even though I’m still tweaking it to be just right. It’s pretty good right now. Highly recommend. GTFreeFlyer Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 Aspirin factories are my favorite strike targets. When I go to eat Sushi, I always ask for extra ginger and bring it home with me, lol. dawgie79 Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 (edited) For me, no labels, no dots. I mostly use the instruments and briefing info, my eyes of course, and sometimes when necessary the VR zoom function. Works fine for me. SP in VR only. Edited March 2, 2019 by dawgie79
