Tutorials for cold start and landing (land-based and carrier)

case 1 isn't that difficult at all imo, much easier than the fa18 for instance landing at an airfield is also pretty easy, the one thing to look out for is the shallowness of her glide slope, but you'll have a few tools to help with this

Could you please explain why its easier then the F18?

I'm also curious what he's getting at. Just about every Youtuber with a pre-release copy has remarked that the carrier pattern and landing are quite a bit harder than in the F/A-18.

1. Are there YT tutorials on cold start (not the 20 minute one, but a bit faster cold start)?
I have one for the pilot on the 9th (startup, taxi, takeoff - 8 minutes, course alignment)

I have a rio startup on the 10th

Great news Jabbers! Thank you! Keep up the amazing work!

How about landing...at least land based?

I hope you know what pain you're causing by teasing us :-)

First of all the plane is more analogue the power is almost instant and your not constantly chasing your throttles, waiting for the fans to spool up and second guessing them, there are a few other tools that will help control the F14 for instance the DLC flaps, which help stabilize the air frame.

Maybe its just me? but i find the f14 much easier to land

Well there is documentation that the spool up time is slower in the 14 vs the 18... who has it wrong in DCS.. I wont get into.

The DLC is really there to fight ground effect when landing on the field. Just so happens it helps in other scenarios to but it exists because the plane doesnt want to land, she likes to float. I find certain aspects of landing in a case i harder in the 14, and others easier. DLC is great not so much for the lift control vertically, but changing the lift vector in a bank when doing the approach turn. If you are turning wide, you can put your DLC down and get a bit extra inside turning room without changing your AOB... turning to short, extend DLC to push yourself out.

The tricky thing with landing for me is ignoring the hud, infact, turning it off is probably the better way to land, having the TVV offset 5 degrees drives me crazy.

I love how easy and simple it actually is to start up the Tomcat, the RIO has a little bit more work to do (CLEAR, CLEAR, CLEAR!) but mostly both crew memebers are just sitting there waiting for the INS to align :)

That was an abbreviated start at best, but few will want to do all of the required checks.

Well, the 404 should spool up from idle to MIL in 4 seconds. Someone posted a document stating that back in June IIRC, but it got no reaction of the mods or someone of ED. In DCS it almost takes 10 seconds instead... almost as slow as a 004 rdlaugh.png

The TVV isn't offset - it's the pitch ladder and the "wings" symbol. The key is to ignore the ladder, or at least the numbers on it, or just know that 0 = -5.

That's because in the sim you don't have to do the OBC like the real RIOs had to :D

Yeah that's what I meant. I mean you could streamline it even further if you wanted to. Connect power, air, crank right, idle right, crank left, idle left, sas on, instruments on, displays on, wings out, master reset, disconnect all the stupid shit hanging off the plane and youre ready to go!

Who cares about checks, checks are for the Air Force :music_whistling:
