Crimson_Ghost138 Posted March 14, 2019 Posted March 14, 2019 Am i doing something wrong with this? I cant seem to get "Iceman" AI to just keep the plane steady while i am switching from Pilot-Seat to RIO in Singleplayer. Even when i give them a command via the control menu, he confirms but not doing anything? Do i have to enable him like pushing an autopilot button or isnt that feature modelled just yet? :helpsmilie: It seems like it does nothing, so when i switch to RIO, the airplane just drifts to the ground and crashes...
some1 Posted March 14, 2019 Posted March 14, 2019 Yeah, would be nice to hear some more details on Iceman abilities. It's not really covered in the manual. Sometimes it seems to activate and keep the aircraft steady, sometimes it just throttles back and lets the aircraft dive to the ground. Impact Posted March 14, 2019 Posted March 14, 2019 Iceman can't do much, this is what the manual says: "In addition to Jester, or rather, as a subset of the Jester AI, the Heatblur DCS F-14B also has Iceman, a basic autopi- lot/AI. This is intended for use in singleplayer where a player might jump between the front and back seats to control both positions and enables a basic autopilot controllable from the back seat using the same methodology as the Jester controls from the front seat. The basic functionality is that when the player switches to the RIO seat, Iceman takes control and on the current heading and altitude. The, now Iceman, menu then allows the player to set heading, altitude and speed. Heading and altitude can be set relative a target or as absolutes not referencing an external target." ------=:: I FLY BLEIFREI ::=------

Crimson_Ghost138 Posted March 14, 2019 Author Posted March 14, 2019 Yep, thats the problem. If he would just level the Cat and fly straight, that would be a nice beginning for getting familiar with RIO cockpit in Singleplayer :) Who can confirm it is WORKING at his machine??
jonsky7 Posted March 14, 2019 Posted March 14, 2019 Well my aircraft starts into a dive when switching to RIO seat but if I'm quick on the menu A then Ctrl-8 for hold current he levels off, maintains speed and heading. Then as long as I remain in RIO seat, the ICEMAN menu seems to work fine.
bogeyatyour6 Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 Yeah, it also works on mine. Once you switch to RIO, open Iceman with "A" and then point to the option you want (relative altitude, heading, speed). I do it with the mouse but as stated above, it also works with the proper keybind. =MoAu= Mors Audente - The Bold Death Squadron 'Hey Jeff, the plane feels a little off today...' I got it to work yesterday, doing it like this: Engage Autopilot in Altitude Hold mode (its tricky because when you move your stick it goes out of that mode...) and then quickly switch to RIO, then it works as intended and i can command him and he responses! All works well. The tricky part is to get Iceman to "lock", so without engaging the autopilot manually i can´t seem to get it to work. But maybe thats the way it should be?
Ickx Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 I just move back. The plane need to be in lever flight. I tried to jump back during a roll but that did not work out well.
bogeyatyour6 Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 (...) I just move back. The plane need to be in lever flight. I tried to jump back during a roll but that did not work out well. Same here. Never bothered using the autopilot. Last time I used any kind of autopilot was in a 12000km non stop test flight using a MD-11F in FS2004 ^^ Simply try to fly level and make the switch and see if it works for you. =MoAu= Mors Audente - The Bold Death Squadron 'Hey Jeff, the plane feels a little off today...' Tiramisu Posted April 16, 2019 Posted April 16, 2019 I wish to have an option for Iceman to hold the current position of my joystick and throttle, when I switch to the RIO seat. It would make life much easier imo.
Eldur Posted April 16, 2019 Posted April 16, 2019 Problem is, he doesn't seem to do even that. The only thing he does with certainty is holding speed by rocking the throttles to and fro, gating them to full AB to increase speed or pulling them back to idle to reduce speed. Trying to make him hold heading and altitude is like a lottery game. Chances are very thin this actually happens. At least at the moment... Well, I haven't tried using his skills before FFB got implemented and as the autopilot doesn't work as well, I guess there's coincidence. BTW I always try to stabilize my aircraft as much as possible for level flight with trim et al before switching to the other seat.

BTW I always try to stabilize my aircraft as much as possible for level flight with trim et al before switching to the other seat. Iceman won't take control if the FFB stick has a non-zero trim center. The work around is to use the controls indicator (RCtrl+Enter) to center trim and stick before switching to the RIO seat. rikkles Posted April 17, 2019 Posted April 17, 2019 Iceman won't take control and keep the plane level if there are any pilot actions on the flight surfaces. This includes the plane not being level, or the trim being too aggressive. This is of course wrong from a UX perspective, and hopefully it'll be fixed soon. In the meantime, level the plane and keep the trim centered before jumping seats, and the autolevel will work.
monkie Posted April 17, 2019 Posted April 17, 2019 I've never had a problem with ole ICEMAN, he has always leveled the aircraft pretty well. I guess I never handed it over to him in some silly untrimmed out of whack state, he doesn't get paid enough to care at that point he says. ctguy1955 Posted April 19, 2019 Posted April 19, 2019 (edited) Can someone please help Me. Ive printed out the manual and Jester non iceman is a page and a half. Ive watched many youtube videos. I cannot get Jester to do anything after I hit the "A" key once or twice for different menus. My mouse can swing the line around but nothing I press does anything. Manual says Cntrl and 1-8 keys. That does nothing. I would like to shoot the aim 54 at 6 bombers 40 miles away. I need info from jester and am not getting much. It would be nice if there was a training .miz or .trk with audio explaining things. One more small issue. No matter what I try now, I cant get into another plane with right ALT + J any longer. I like being able to jump into another jet before I have to parachute out. This has not worked for me for awhile now, was the option deleted in a recent update ? Thanks for some help as I have tried everything and am stuck and need some info. Mike ***************************************************************************** I went back and read the manual and it just says Control + your choice of 1-8. Thought I tried left cntl as well as right. I was able to find the info I needed right in the Flight Sims menu about Jester. My apologies for not finding out sooner on my Own. Now to go back and watch the YouTube videos !!! I do still need to know about what is going on with jumping into another aircraft that Right Alt + J used to do. ( found out in a old Mustang manual that rt win J now works !) Edited May 9, 2019 by ctguy1955 No help with RT ALT and J to jump into another jet
