LanceCriminal86
Was goofing around with trying to make some heritage schemes, finding that the colors are coming out much darker in DCS, particularly the top wing surfaces. The worn variation layers make the original gray come through but it has a nice feel like the early Marine Corsairs the were flying from packed coral runways from Bougainville as the paint and grime started to wear in. Couldn't find a good spot for the traditional US Roundel for 1942-1943 either, figured I'll just fly around with it like this until we get some pro tips on how the templates can best be used to mimic non-gray schemes. My attempt at the 1943-44 tricolor scheme was so dark the blue looked black. LanceCriminal86
Linear. Not srgb I'm fairly sure I used linear, I will check my settings again tonight. I figure once I understand the templates better I can take another crack at doing VF-201. Already a challenge being that the only good image or drawing of the tail emblems were from one side so I can't just copy/crop it into the skin and that was just the CAG's bird. Hummingbird
Is it possible anyone could do a single very simple modification to the VF-103 Last Cruise skin (the one on the DCS website banner)? What I'd really like is this type of cockpit anti glare scheme added to it: Preferably in the same type of black colour as already on the vertical stabs. That would be absolutely epic! PS: It would be double epic if you could give the Hi Viz VF-103 skin the same cockpit anti glare scheme! (Not a fan of the current scheme that extends right to the nose) Edited April 23, 2019 by Hummingbird
Zaku
Just wanted to post a few screenshots of my virtual squadron. We started off in Hornets using the VFA-163 Ark Angels markings from Behind Enemy Lines. I translated those marking conventions over to mid-2000s Tomcats, and NG201 is a heritage bird like the final cruise AJ101 and 213, inspired by the real VA-163 Saints. When we get the F-14A, all of the squadron will look like that (with more hi viz flair like white undersides and control surfaces).
LanceCriminal86
Turns out I was using sRGB, now the colors are looking better. I could put more work into the masks on the patterns that came with the VF-11 scheme but honestly, I think it works pretty well. Might go back and do the 1942 style gray-blue on the VF-103 Sluggers bird again. The blues between the sides, wings, top fuselage and tails don't match exactly but I think a lot of that has to do with the layers, base layer colors, etc. that differ between each PSD. There's a lot of inconsistency, but I guess with further tweaking one could generally get each to match more closely. Zaku
Guys, call me dumb, but where can I find the basic white pilot and RIO helmet that I could modify? CoreMods\aircraft\F14\Textures\Diffuse_RoughMet\HB_F14_EXT_PILOT_HELMET.dds Could you do me a favor and post that texture and HB_F14_EXT_PILOT_SUIT.dds as pngs? I'm using an older version of photoshop so I can't install the plugin needed to view them. I've just been using the small textures from the 3in1 instead. Zaku
Thanks Zaku! Will post a .PNG when at home tonight! Thanks; by the way, if the default texture has markings, check CoreMods\aircraft\F14\Liveries\f-14b\VF-143 Pukin Dogs CAG\HB_F14_EXT_PILOT_HELMET_143OLD.dds. From what I've seen on the 3in1, it only has a few markings that are easy to get rid of and doesn't have any velcro.

sSkullZnBoneZz
Hey guys, can anyone give me some pointers on lining up graphics on the stabilizer and rudder? I’ve been working on the same liverie for hours and no matter what I do I can’t get it line up perfectly. There has to be a trick or something that I don’t know. I’ve been working on the same liverie for hours and no matter what I do I can’t get it line up perfectly. There has to be a trick or something that I don’t know. It took me hours to line up as well. However there is an easier way. Just place embedded one of the tails from the liveries which came with the 14 and use their art to line up yours. There is a few pixel shift between the vertical stabs and the rudders.
