Hey Grandsurf, great work. I enjoy watching the progress. :)

 

I might have missed it, but do you intend to release the highres textures seperatley to the added structures and vehicles? I ask because I feel it might get a bit too tricky to taxi with bigger planes, suchas tankers or AWACS, around the "Street lamps" and other structures near the taxiways and aprons. Or is there no collision model for it and this is not an issue at all?

I have a feeling the planes will just go right through the lamp posts.

 

Really grandsurf, this is totally insane! I really hope my computer can handle it. I'll be getting a 3.0GHz processor soon, so that should help.

Well at night in a fighter like the 16... non ILS or Tacan approaches you can land a little long sometimes :)

 

Just looked at the pics that you guys might be talking about... maybe the anti-lock is not working on one of the channels on all of the jets all of the time LOL!

My mission is to fly, fight, and win. o-:|:-o What I do is sometimes get a tin of soup, heat it up, poach an egg in it, serve that with a pork pie sausage roll.

Here's a tip, go to google earth or google maps and check out the real runways. Here's s shot of the Belbek air base which is in the Lock on world

It's all depend what do you want to represent high traffic or lower.

Kungfu correct your monitor calibration.

 

GrandSurf is not far from what it should be.. if only we could find the way to decide the textures to go to each base that woulb be great.. It is darker when you are on the runway in RL but maybe make to sample and chose one ?

I think adding high traffics marks make the base more alive..

Anyway, here's a couple of more shots of various real runways that are located around the Lock On world

On average, most of them don't have a lot of traffic. So you can reduce it.

Now this is going in the right direction. SuperKungFu has right.

As well too much rubber is also removed from runway from time to time (unless on airports).

Also on that satelite photos you can see mowed grass. This could be a tip to search such a texture and replace that zoomed one which Shepski pointed.

kungfu your pictures have no enough contrast add a bit more and you'll see better but yeas if only we could make different traffics in different bases.. When you are in RL infront the runways they will be darker.

All these pics were taken from google maps/google earth, I could add more contrast to it but I'm lazy. Since in Lock On you can't have different sets of textures for each AB, we kinda have to go with an average one: and those looks similar to the one found on Saki/Simferopol AB.

I think it make more sense to look at civilian runways & US military strips rather than satelite photos of the runways modelled in LO.

Russia has been short of cash for a good few years & flight hours got pretty low - so no rubber on the strips.

Not only are they starting to get some money behind them now, but if there were a military crisis you would expect more activity & so more rubber.

That said - I think that the middle part of the runway is too dark...

Maybe just lighten that layer of the texture a bit ?

Right. It's easy to cross the limits so be carefull. Too much may queer it to kitschy impression. Let's say we see those runways in conflict time, that's way there is more military traffic and more rubber. But I think it's a bit too dark...
