amazing dude. Don't cut it out too much. That defeats the purpose of a high def model. We have lods for performance reason. Go crazy with the hog. :D

I have worked on the same model with Lo-fi .There was a lot of unused poly in the model that were cleaned out with out any loss of detail. i am sure he can do the same. One example is there is a lever in the cockpit with around 3,000 poly. That you can't see at all it took me 15 minutes of sorting through objects in the cockpit to find it objects like that can be removed Keep up the good work:thumbup:

CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.

ok guys..

now its 65.000 poly..

besides..

i have erased some bolts and pipes at the almost unseenable places..

i got no detail to erase anymore....

all the seenable parts and details stayed intact...

the pilot deadman gave me was 18.000 poly (just noticed..sorry bro :( )

we need a 1000-1500 max poly pilot..

does any of you have it?

i asked ED for the 3dmax file of the Lo pilot dude , many many times - but they could not be bothered to share it ??

dunno why ?? - to me that was a big sign that they did not really want to help out 3d hobby guys - i asked quite a few times too in various threds - the Lo pilot 3dmax file would have helped out alot of plane makers etc

sorry for spamming guys..

latest update..

62.300 polys..

thats final..

i think the modelling is done..

tonight , i will retract the front gear..close the airbrakes..

hopefully tomorrow , rear gears and canopy will be back in their places..

than the animation..

render is the same as the last one so i will not put it in here..

Retracting is a little harder that i thought it will be..

in the model.. doors do not fit their places perfectly when they are shut..

so they need a little tweak here and there..

i think its gonna be ready for first test flight a week later..(without the texture)

I have two questions to you guys..

What about damage modelling?..

Can somebody help me with the uv unwrap?

Is uv unwrap going to be compatible with the existing a-10 skins or we'r gonna revise them too?..(my vote is for doing them again...lots of new parts..)

My advice: Forget the compatibility with existing skins. Get someone to redo'em for your model. Walmis did it right in this respect, I believe you should follow what he did :)

Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D

I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

When the Su25T came out there were some report of problems may be caused by the size of the model or the amount of pixes to skin it I don't know.At one time i made some 4096x4096 skins the problem was not flying with them but making them on my old computer

i would suggest you to make 2 skinfiles, cause you want to replace the old one.

keep it the way it is allready in lockon, so you would have less poblems thats my advice, but you have to know.

actually it does not matter how many skinparts you make, it will in the end only come to huge bunch of files that could cause problems of sorting and all that but well it is up to you.

keep up the work and well maybe you have new screenshots?

i myself will be working on th blackbird next week again, cause i have to much to do right now, jesus christ, time is that what is sometime the problem, damn.

i am realy interested in making a new f-15 or the best would be a f-15e , :-)

Well if you make only two skin files the largest you could then easily work on is a set of 2048x2048. Where if you break it up just as the Su25t and create a new cdds folder. witch has to be done As Walmis's F-15.you can increase the resolution of the skin greatly and still let some one with a normal computer make skins.

The Su25t has a total of 13 skin plates or files per skin for a total of 11,522.048 sq pixel area.( I have no Idea if the method of calculation is correct i just figured total square area of the plates and added them up as a starting point)

The two file or plate system fro 1024x1024 has 2.097.152 or about 18% of the total pixels of the Su25t skin

A2048x2048 set has 8.519.680 sq pixels for 74% of the total of the Su25t

A set of 4098x4098 skin set will have 33.685.504 or 2.9 time the amount of resolution of the Su25t skin set a bit hight i think .

A possible solution may be a set of 5 to six plates in the 2048x2048 range but this is all a guess do to the fact I did not get to run tests on Lo-fi's model

I think you should do what walmis did, use the old 2 skin files. That way, all the current skins out there, would actually fit on the new model. Of course a new template should be created for the future, but this way, a lot of the old skins won't go to waste.

same way walmis did on his F-15, some areas of the aircraft that was new, such as the inside of the canopy or some parts of the engine, there were new textures for that in the temptexture folder. As for the rest of the plane, it still used the old 2 skin idea.

Witch in the end was not compatible with the old skins hence the new template

Also less of the F-15 skin was stretched or used in more than one area,or mirrored on the other side. Don't forget that many items on the A-10 skin come off of the A-10-OKRAS files and get used on all of the skins. Working with the currant system will be the same old pain in the but for skinners. I will happily scrap all my old A-10 skins for a new system. And draw them again
