its a bit of a hobby of mine but i am really a noob at it... my means of capturing lightning is a bit primitive..... all i use is a HP photosmart 945 :P its a really good camera.... but i stumbled on being able to take pictures like these when i forgot to flip up the flash in the dark and it took for ever to take the picture... everything was blured but it turned out the end result was a bright picture.. because it waited to get light to complete the picture (is my theory anyway i have no idea why LOL ) so i went out one night in a storm set it up on a tripod to keep it from bluring and hit take picture.... it takes like 15 seconds to end the picture... its like almost a time laps photography ... Ghetto style LOLz anyway here are 2 of my best ones i took just 20 min ago in a storm we had! i have never had such good ones as these! enjoy :D and if you want the high rez.. these are it because when i dont use the flash the rez goes down to 1280 x somethin :P sorry :(

Really nice pictures! The camera needs to have its shutter open for so long because of the low light. It needs to expose the "film" ot digial brick inside your cam to capture the light there is so the picture is not underexposed. Also, when the shutterspeed is long, all that happens within lets say 30 seconds will be in the picture. Also try iy when there are fireworks! Can be real nice. :)

Nice, I also enjoy a good lightining storm, as long as were safe... :)

A few years back I was at a rented apartement on beach resort, that day there werent any conditions to go to the beach as wether got suddenly from very hot into a large array of extremely tall clouds covering the sky over our heads. It develeped an incredible lightening storm...man... tunderbolts would cross from one place in the clouds into the horizon perhaps traveling several dozen miles horizontaly, with this pinkish bringht light, and they came one after other in such a way there were nearly no intervals between the flashes and that night became day. Older people wouldnt dare to come out and hid inside their houses, but me and my cousins went out for a night walk to watch it. We went down to a beach were we observed sea skiming and water plunging bolts. I have never seen it in my life, and never with that intensity. I was so awed and so disapointed at the same time I hadnt a camera. It didnt matter where and when you would take a shot, I garauntee you would get thunderbolts photographed anywhere in the sky.
