How do you map the F1 - F12 buttons in VR?

For Radio Communication we Need 12 Buttons F1 - F12 on the Keyboard. Is there a trick, how I can access these Buttons in VR without using the Keyboard itself? My new HOTAS doesn't have as many Buttons left sad.gif

I have the keyboard just behind my desk mount, so it´s not very difficult to look for the proper F-key, even using the nose gap under my CV1.

Other use VoiceAttack + VAICOM plugin with very good results, I´m still figuring out how to set it up.

So just pressing a button of your HOTAS and saying, for example "Tower, request takeoff", and the sim will answer. It´s very customizable so if you prefer saying "ATC" instead of "Tower", you are allowed to do so, or adding other synonims which fit your taste.

It´s a very powerful tool, however some of us find it difficult to setup.

It´s not expensive either, give it a try.

The radio menu is clickable. I use a trackball mouse so that its location never changes. Once you move the mouse the cursor becomes visible and you can point it with your head. This is how I use 90 percent of all cockpit controls including the radio menu.

Yeah, that's the way I do it too :) I have a button for bringing the menu up mapped to the HOTAS.

I tried Voice Attack, but never had much joy with it. The voice recognition was flaky for me and I would forget the actual commands I had set up anyway:megalol:

I have Voice Attack but I don't really use the voice portion much. I do use it to program complex sequences of events along with verbal feedback. I scripted the entire FA18 startup with voice announcement of each step as it is performed so I can press one button and the jet fires up and configures for taxi and departure the way I like it.

I do have a couple voice commands that I use. The main one is "What time is it?" so I don't have to take off the Rift to check the clock.

What HOTAS do you have? I use a shift switch with my Warthog with CMS, TMS, DMS buttons so that covers F1-F12.

Thanks very much for your answers.

I tried it and I also had the left mouse-button mapped to a joystick button before. This also works for clicking the cockpit - buttons but not for the F1-F12 Comms-Menu. I only see a blue cross after clicking the mouse-button on the joystick but I don't get the white arrow. And hovering the blue cross over the Comms Menu doesn't change anything, I can't klick the Menu - Any idea?

You might have figured it out by now but if you move the blue arrow further right you’ll see a whit circle (not a white arrow) appear, you can use that whit circle as the comms select cursor.

Voice Attack with Vaicom Pro is awesome, and a huge help for VR users.
