Follow up, is displaying the RWR symbology on the HUD an option? Can it be switched off?

Yes, you can deselect HUD on the EW page so it won't show up.

Yes it can. On the EW DDI page there is a HUD button on the right that does the job.

I haven't read all the responses but you can select if you want the EW symbols on HUD on the EW DDI page...

Using stable version.

 

 

After turning on the EW/RWR the HUD is not boxed.

On air starts with the RWR on from the beginning, HUD is boxed by default. If you start the RWR (or shut it down and start it again), HUD will be unboxed.
