mvsgas
It is there, you just can't see it (stealthy :D) 1 To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Thank you for you patience. Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true.. Bucic
I love that rotor design as well as those chppers for some reson. The MD500 as well. People who value their heads love it either :D TBH though I don't see how 135 would be any more "silent" than a Mi-8. I have both flying near and over my workplace all the time and the 135's sound is annoying compared to the pleasant chop-chop+bell sound of 8. I know the noise levels analysis says otherwise but I would rate them as 135 being twice as annoying compared to 8. Check this out! (compare rotor head complexity) When I first saw 135 from up close I thought "Is it a mockup of main rotor on that thing I'm seeing?" ;) F-4E Phantom module for sale -25% non-Steam
sobek
I always wondered what the inlet above the engine is. Is it some sort of oil cooler inlet? Mikoyan89
Now the first italian prototype rests in this same airport, in bad conditions, it doesn't seem a typhoon anymore, it seems like she had 40-50 years of service.... AlphaOneSix
If you mean the exhausts for the oil cooler fan, then they are the top and behind the oil cooler inlet, just in front of the opening for the rotor system (for Mi-8, anyway, not sure if it's the same for Mi-24, will have to look at some pics). AlphaOneSix
I just took a picture myself. ;) I'm standing right in front of the oil cooler inlet, looking aft, in the attached photo. The two grated exhausts in front of the rotor opening are for the oil coolers.

I'd prefer that rather than engineering but mechanics' salary is pretty modest in Poland in the long run. mikoyan
That is right the mil-8 sounds great! Specially in a low flying pass. The uh-60 is also cool but it has a more modern and electrical feel... lol it is not music what we are talking about.
mig29movt
Does anyone knows what the gray "things" on top of the main rotor are? Some of the newer Mil Mi-8 have it. AlphaOneSix
Vibration damper for dampening out 16Hz (5:1) vibrations from the rotor system. Makes flights a little smoother for crew and passengers. EDIT: I took a picture of the vibration damper a while back, just found it. It's called a "bifilar" damper, since it uses a weight balanced on two "filaments" or pins. It's the exact same thing the Black Hawk uses, but the Black Hawk doesn't use covers over the weights like the Mi-8's do.
