Boeing B-17F Memphis Belle™- Upper Turret Install

 

DAYTON, Ohio (Aug. 16, 2017) -- Museum restoration crews and 88th ABW civil engineers work to install the upper turret of the B-17F Memphis Belle™ in preparation for the exhibit opening. USS Nimitz • Flight Operations Aboard An Aircraft Supercarrier

 

USS Nimitz CVN-68 is a nuclear powered supercarrier of the U.S. Navy and the lead ship of her class. It is one of the largest warships in the world, with a total displacement of 110,250 tons. "Supercarrier" is an unofficial term for the largest aircraft carriers, typically those displacing over 70,000 tons. Supercarriers are the largest warships ever built. The U.S. Navy currently has 11 Supercarriers in service - 10 Nimitz Class carriers, and the USS Gerald R. Ford CVN-78 which is the lead ship of the Ford Class.

That's the first time an A-10C uses a GBU-31V(3) in combat. This GBU-31V(3) is a penetrator variant, the GBU-31V(1) is based on Mk-84 warhead. GBU-31V(3) uses the BLU-109 instead. It also uses a different guidance kit (KMU-557/B)
