Is there any particular reason why we don’t have TAS indicator in Su-27 and Su-33? Does anybody know if we will ever get one?

They are made for intelligent pilots :harhar:

Both IAS plus Mach number indicator on the gauge.

But no TAS indicator. Do you know loacation of the TAS indicatior in real Su27?

When LOMAC was first published (V1.0), the TAS was indicated on the HUD. IIRC, the IAS later replaced it because there is no TAS indication (supposedly) on the real aircraft. And, for myself, I have never seen a TAS indicator in any photo of an Su-27 cockpit.

Su-27SK flight manual, book1. On the bottom of the page, they say for the planes equipped with SEI system Narciss-M the TAS appears as a counter on the lower-right part of the IPV display.

That won’t be such a bad idea, to have this in LockOn in case some patch will ever be released, but actually my first choice will be adding the variometer on the HUD, that will be really useful :smilewink:

Besides the target speed in BVR also the target speed should be shown in Vertical Scan (autolock) mode with or without radar (both EOS or radar can give range, so target speed is extrapolated), that's what makes gunzo a bit crappy, but hey, they fixed the pipper.

And this is where we need help of our master of all pictures in our community. Mr. KUSCH!

Kusch, we need few really, really good pictures of the Su-27S(P) cockpit instrumentation. Who knows, we may be able to spot something interesting.

Thanks,

Hoooooolyyy cow!!!! From what I can read Russian, item #9 (and # 8 ) on that picture is Friendly Aircraft(s) with velocity vector AND ALTITUDE numbers! I wonder if this is a GCI (or AWACS) mode of operation not modeled in Lock On? I can’t imagine Mech (radar and processing) being able to produce this kind of info?

If this is a Su-27SK manual, the Su-27SK is a slightly downgraded (avionics wise) export (for China and Vietnam) version of the Flanker.

Why do you want a TAS indicator? :) (really I want to know...)
To maintain formation when flying at different altitudes.

Very nice, I didn't know that. From what I've seen the IPV is nothing but HUD replicator (on the MiG-29 for example), appears that what we actualy have in LO is the "Nartziss-M" EFIS system. What do you know, we learn somethign new every day...

Hmm, I'm not following... Is it really a formation when you fly at defferent levels?

I am thinking, formation like maintain certain separation. For example, I am flying at 100m and my leader is at 7000m and we want to make sure we maintain 7-8km separation. That is “formation” (did not know how else to name it) I was talking about.

TAS is that number in the bottom right hand corner then? That DATA link screen looks cool!

You should use the mach number then : in LO the ground speed for two aircraft flying the same mach at different altitude will be almost the same :)

I suppose it all depends on how long they fly using that tactical formation. Taking Hajduk's example and plugging in a reasonable Mach number (Mach 0.5, for instance) you get 612 TAS (kph) at 100 meters and 562 TAS (kph) at 7000 meters altitude. In five minutes the guy at low level will be a bit over 4 km ahead of the guy upstairs. In an hour, OTOH, he'll be 50 km ahead.

That is the datalink view, I have a couple of pics of a real life one

Where on earth have you found those? I knew how it looks and what everything means from the flight manual, but never seen pictures of the real one. Now it appears like the drawings from the manual are pretty correct, of course I mean proportion-wise.

Are they stills from a video?

Thanks
