bogusheadbox Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 How can the BS countermeasures nullify, or otherwise reduce manpads pk? I have no clue as to how to go about this. Can a flight plan minimize manpads encounters? Flyby It can to an extent but unless you have 100% intel prior to entering the hot spot, then there will always be a level of uncertainty as to where your threat will most likely come from. Especially in reality, man pads end up in some crazy places that you just won't expect. So the ideal would be to know your target location. Then you choose vantage positions at varying distances. You should have a few of these in order to change tactics depending on unknowns. So the only real problem would be to get to your tactical location in order to assess the target area. Once you have a peek-a-boo then you can choose an alternative location to attack or sit still and designate from your protective spot. But who is to say that the defense hasn't realised the best vantage points and have them already covered ???
159th_Viper Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Hunt in Pairs/Groups with one on point and the other in Trail - that way you can spot and call launches. Spotted early you will be able to decoy the Missile/Drag it into the Ground. So as GG said - it's all in the planning and execution of said plan :) Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Click me to commence your Journey of Pillage and Plunder! GGTharos Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Just like bogusheadbox and Viper said :D So, about the Ka-50's countermeasures specifically: You have a programmable flare dispenser. Meaning, you can tell it to dispense x flares every y seconds and do this z number of times. So once you come over a ridge, KNOWING that there just -might- be some manpads hiding on the reverse slope waiting for you, you trigger the CMD program, and you fly along as it does its job: Dispensing a number of flares at regular intervals. You might not see the MANPADS, but it might eat your flares anyway. Furthermore, a lot of people think that the way to do things is to take out all air defense beforehand. This is certainly a nice idea, but it's not terribly realistic - MANPADS aren't very visible until they launch, for example. So you have to go in using preventive measures EVEN when you think you know where everything is. Flyby Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 so there it is then, When speaking of sead strikes, I did not imply the inclusion of manpads. As said, they are hard to detect, and probably more so by fast movers. So I guess the idea of programming the flare dispenser and employing it in the target area seems like wisdom to me. Was it confirmed that manpads will be in BS? I've lost track. :) If so, that's a nice pucker factor to have to worry over. One thing to become proficient at flying the BS, but quite another to have your hat handed to you by a manpads team (after all that training and hard work)! :D Yep! That's a nice pucker factor:joystick: Flyby The U.S. Congress is the best governing body that BIG money can buy.
GGTharos Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 MANPADS will be there. Black Shark would be lacking something without them ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
