Pitbuilding Update - 16 June 2008 - My new FFB Pedals

Got the parts I need for making my new Force Feedback Pedals tonight..

I'll be using the footpads from the pedals I have now. The only thing new is the 90 degree brackets that will be attached to the foot-pads rear side. The ones I have now are made from wood, and would probably simply break under these potential loads.!

I'll also use the electronics from the Driving Force Wheel I use now. But the PWM signal for the motor will be amplified with a PWM Servo Amplifier Brush Type from Advanced Motion Controls.

ffbpedals0013524772.jpg

The Parts: The motor/gear comes from an industrial door-opener mechanism. The beauty of this setup is (naturally) the HUGE motor. But also it has a gear ratio of 1/200, and is absolutely slop-free..!

The Hall Effect sensor will be mounted under the gear mechanism, and should be free from all accidental leg-kicking and other previously experienced problems..?:music_whistling:

The 25x25x120mm solid aluminum center piece will be the pivot point. Mainly because it's a llot easyer to drill holes and tap this compared to the 25mm Aluminum pipe that the pedals are attached to..

ffbpedals0023535157.jpg

I'll be drilling and putting it all together tomorrow night maybe.? But the FFB function has to wait untill I find a powersupply that is big enough..

I know this might seem like a serious case of overkill madness? But from the testing I have done it will FEEL just right..! (And I'll NEVER use the motors full potential.. I'm really just not a big fan of leg casting and long periods of reconvalence in hospitals..)

Did some flying on with Panzertard and the guys from 159th squad tonight.. And MAN is this simulator great..! And I got my first couple of kills also..! Yahoo..! The HOCAS is working 100% (although I had to set the target pipper up as DirectX buttons in the game.. It didn't seem to want to work when I mapped them to key inputs? Not that it matters really? All my buttons have one function, and no different "modes" can be chosen. So I could just as well just set them all up in the sim anyway?)

.... I can't wait for tomorrow night.. Rep to ED for bringing us such joy..!:pilotfly:

More importantly when can I come to Norway and try it out :D

I hope you have the time to come online a brag a bit of your HOCAS - would be nice to hear how the force feedback works when you kick the rudder in one of the high-wind turbulence missions ;)

I'll drop you a message on MSN so we can go somewhere quiet and test a bit :)

Pitbuilding Update - 20 june 2009 - Cockpits Drawings coming along..

I had to hurry up and get these done since they are the replacing the IO module anyway. And I need somewhere to route my cables to..

Ps. I think I have busted the FFB card for the pedals..! Aaaargh..

And does anyone have an idea how to make the Sidewinder FFB joystick work properly in Windows7..?

I am so frustrated over the trim function right now, I'm about to go crazy..! It's such a BRILLIANT IDEA from ED to have this function, but almost impossible to make it work 100% right with any consistansy..? HELP..!

Wel.. Back to flying again..:pilotfly:

Ps. The mechanics for "the mother of all FFB pedals" was finished yesterday.. But I'm holding back the pics untill I get the trim function working in the simulator.. No point showing off something that doesn't work..? But I can tell you this much.... They're one MF beefy looking set of pedals..! I'm actually a little scared of them..

Awesome man, what software will you use for the force feedback?

I am in a rut conserning this right now mate..! I wanted to use the original MSSW/FFB2 software in Windows7, but I haven't been able to do so..? And also I'm thinking that we are really not using more than a fraction of the FFB funtions (just reseting the virtual centerpoint. No shaking, no gradual loss off feeback as we "stall out" and such), so there must be a simpler, more precise to do this with a software running parallel to the simulator? I'm thinking something in the same line as that DIY Motion platform guy metioned in another thread here.? Got any thoughts you want to share on the matter mate? I'm open to all ideas...!

More importantly when can I come to Norway and try it out :D

As soon as I've got it working mate.. Just pop on over and we'll have a beer and a laugh..

... that's exactly what's scaring me.. That, and the fact that I can't seem to find a controller card that can do the job..

I like the cockpit, I could help you in that area, If I could get the general dims of the pit area - I could draw up the structure for easy assembly. Let me know!

BTW, I will be working on the BS seat here soon- Picking up my cnc this week. I was going to let trigger beta test the seat when finished.

I can send you the drawings if you like? You have much better skills than me in making things "buildable" from what i've seen..

.... YAHOOOO...! (dancing the global dance of joy) .. Seriously, I cant wayt to see what you have made from the info and cad I send you..

Lol!!! I will second that. I surf your thread about 5 times a day hoping for updates =) LOL my wife thinks I am nuts. If she only knew hehe.

hey trigger cockpit build is looking great, looks like you've lowered it some/cropped the bottom from the initial cad drawing, but that should be good for the actual physical dimensions (not to high up) - awesome to watch this coming along.

when you finish that one you can start on this one for the addon pack :P hehe

apache-front-end.jpg

that would be sweet, one of each, side by side for some head to head battles with some buddies.

just let me know when you need the cad drawing. ((:

Very very nice.

Without distracting too much from topic, what are you guys using for CAD?

Canada.. 'gotta love that country..!

Looking good Trigger. Do you want to fly to Canada and build mine to ;)

... well... why not..!? From what I've heard Canada is more or less like Norway, only with good food..? And you have more guns and still a fraction of the murderings of your unfortunate neighbor (unfortunate in the sence that they quite clearly don't know that we can all get along together.. if we try?)

And you are the country on the planet that spend most money on outdoors activities of all..! By spending money I mean purchasing shoes, clothing, climbing equipment and stuff.. Not having to pay to use the great outdoors..

That's what I remember from the top of my head.. Am I mistaken here..? :music_whistling:

Now who wouldn't want to go to Canada..? I sure would.. It sounds like the healthy personal trainer of the US, that has made a chose to keep it's personal life ... personal..? And it lives in its cozy little cabin a stones throw further north..

I like them both a lot.. It's a matter of taste. like in women..? You don't exclusivly date blondes just because you like them..? you just.. LIKE THEM..!? ALL OF THEM..!

The weather's here has been just super this last week, so my prgression is slooow.. But I've managed to cut out the first bulkheads:

ka50cockpit13223060.jpg

ka50cockpit3218745.jpg

And I found time to take my better half on a helicopter ride to..! man was THAT fun..

I've accepted the job as board leader of a company that does areal photography. And this is a "french benefit" that comes with the job..

larsogingvildphelikoptev.jpg

.. my girlfriend working on her flight attendant routine before take-off. "in case of an emergency...."

larsogingvildphelikoptej.jpg

And me posing as a photographer.. (I have NO CLUE how to operate that thing..! Couldn't even switch the thing on..)

larsogingvildphelikoptejua.jpg

And we have a winner..! Now she totally understand my love of helicopters...

Pitbuilding Update - 29th of June 2009 - Morons, Gunfights and not inhaling

Looks like you made some good moves there, Trigger!

Wow. Good looking woman and a simpit. Is she going to serve you in flight snacks? hehe

Belive me when I say that no one knows how lucky I am better than ME..! I think she's gorgeous, and so much fun to be arround you wouldn't belive it..! And probably a lot smarter than me to..! (not sure my self image is happy with that last one? But I am prepared to live in denial..)

Lol its funny how you were talking about the United States VS Canada and we just had a drive by shooting a few hours a go here =\

Oh for the love of G*D..! You've started doing that in Canada to..!?

It's just such an insult to millions of years of evolution! Even if I accept shooting people as a way to solve disputes (like in Texas..LoL). I can't find a single neuron saying "YES" to the drive-by as the means to reach a goal..?

I mean.. if the intention is to shoot someone? Who was it that came up with the brilliant idea that it should be done from the window of a speeding car? You don't get a lot of accuracy from a car window?

Is it because they need to mask the fact that they couldn't hit a barn-door at a 3 feet distance?

Is it becuase they acftually hold a grudge against EVERYONE ELSE..? And hide it behind a gang related Vendetta?

Are they actually aiming at all us bystanders?

Why can't the idiots just admitt that they actually DO NOT want to shoot each other after all..? Because the only thing the concept of a "drive by" is telling me, is that the car is populated by a group off brain dead guys. Clearly unable to see that they're walking around with T-shirts saying "I'm with stupid" and the arrow points to THEM SELVES..!

I would like to suggest that any gang that has ever been assosiated with drive-by's should not be sentenced under the "organised crime" part of each countries law..! Because it is quite clear that they do not hold the mental capasity to organise anything..!

And if you fail in being a criminal what is left for you..? Even primates turn their back to them...! :megalol:

Phuuh..! that felt good..!

Now back to PitBuilding..

To all you who secretly dream of starting a pit-building project..? Take a look at today's pictures, and notice they JOY in my eyes as I sit ther thinking "I wish I was Flim.. I wish I was Flim and he's capable CnC router.. He's probably got hair to.."!

lars0940114101.jpg

lars0930110893.jpg

lars0920107418.jpg

And this really IS sweat from being full of joy..!?

lars0910102876.jpg

.. or is it my brain desperatly trying to escape..?

Almost there now...

lars0900099450.jpg

I know what you're thinking about this next picture... DON'T..!

lars0890095624.jpg

And finally the bulkheads are identical, and have the right shape.. Two down.. 28 to go..!

(and I complain about the drive-by guys being stupid..? I need to find a simpler way to fabricate..)

lars0950090419.jpg

Tomorrow I'll post the pics of the final version of the FFB Cyclic.. And some thoughts on making the stick more balanced, and the FFB motors stronger..!

But until then I bid you all farewell, and a good night..!

(Inhaling MDF dust is not good for you.. next time I'll be smart and do like a former american president did..!)
