According to the Hornet key listings F4 should be the 'Look back' key, but when I hit it I get a view perched on the right wingtip looking forward.

The key works fine with the Frogfoot, allowing us to look back over the tail at the devastation our stick of bombs is doing.

Why doesn't it work with the Hornet?

Use the mouse to rotate the view so it's facing backward. It's not really a look back key, it's a fixed external view that can be moved and rotated.

That's what F2 does.

Nope, they're different external views, that's all. F4 is better suited for very up-close shots and can actually pass through the airframe. F2 cannot do the latter, for example.

I would direct my anger at those responsible for programming the key in this manner. Don't be angry with the key itself, it's not F4's fault.

Quite frankly, the F4-view used to be 'look back' in previous incarnations of DCS. A lot of the newer modules use it for other purposes, as in 'wingtip' views and such, which are popular for their cinematic feel. This is especially true for most of the modern jets, which often have decent rearward visibility anyway, so you can just roll out a bit and watch your bomb impacts straight from the seat. Perhaps the key should just be renamed...

Oh, and for the record: of course the F4-view can be rotated at will, though it's usually offset from its point of rotation. Makes for quite some unique screenshots now and then.

I'm not really angry, it was just my attempt at a funny pun using the title of the stage play "Look Back in Anger".

(o god please make me funny)

So to sum up what you guys are saying (correct me if I'm wrong), the Hornet F4 "look back" key doesn't look back at all, it simply perches us on the wingtip looking forward, no bloody use at all.

I know it can be rotated to look back, (as can the F2 external view) but by the time we've fiddled with the pan control it's too late to see the bombs detonating.

I paid 62 GB pounds (75 US dollars) for Hornet and I'm beginning to think I should have gone for a cheaper simpler sim instead, as most sims out there DO have a proper look back key (and more besides), that Hornet doesn't have (sniffle).

When you know a bomb run is coming go F2, point back, F1, do bomb run, do F2 to have a look.

What's the matter with doing a climbing turn to look back at what you bombed? Isn't that what a real pilot would do?

Ah, but that'd make me a SAM/AA magnet and the poor natives would scurry indoors shrieking "Aieee, it is he who walks with danger!"

Anyway I'm having some success with what other guys have suggested by using the F2 and snapview keys to jump to a look behind view like below after releasing the bombs, eat this Ivan-
