ED Team Yo-Yo Posted July 10, 2008 ED Team Posted July 10, 2008 (edited) I am mostly interested in the icing. You have mentioned airframe and induction icing. (Not even FSX modells airframe / induction / carburettor icing) Can you describe how it is implemented in game. Is it a set occurance based on static weather parameters or is it dynamic with various effects ? Also in the defence of Icing, what does the KA-50 carry? Blade tip heaters? Vibrating leading edges? Weeping membrame ? Bleed air for induction icing ? Regards, Bogus. As the helicopter airframe is not so crytical for flight we did not implement the airframe icing. The ice will be only in the engine inlet causing the well-known problems for it and on the blades changing their mass and aerodynamic characteristics. Pitot tubes and AoA/AoS vanes as well will suffer. The effects promise to be interesting... Deicing can be natural and due to anti-icing means. The engines has combined electric and hot air systems and the blades have electric system. All elements calculate local wet air stagnation temperature regarding local Mach number (velocity) so the blade tips will be iced not similar to their roots. Free water content will be different in fog, clouds and even in the sprindrift while hovering near the water surface. Also the low water content will be always as the region has very wet climate. ThunderChief Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Just curious if you can actually see the icing?
RedTiger Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 :surprise: No kidding... Next thing you know, DCS will have complex geometrics and equations to simulate the grass stains on the wheels of aircraft when they land on grassy air strips. Even puddles of transmission fluid on the tarmac will be mathematically correct!

eurofor Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 (edited) No info on what Mi-24 variant is actually being made? Can someone confirm? May 16 DCS Update 6- Mi-24V Edited July 10, 2008 by eurofor [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
EvilBivol-1 Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 As with the F-16C and all other DCS modules passed the A-10 and Apache, we won't confirm any details. Not because it's a big secret, but simply because it may be inaccurate information, as it's impossible to foresee future events that may impact development. However, we do want to demonstrate our general plans and some of the work that has already been done toward them. - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Everything takes much longer. eurofor Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 (edited) I see and I'm very thankful for this but the specific version was announced and that's clearly not that version. EDIT: Just as happy with the other version. Just curious if it plans have changed. Edited July 10, 2008 by eurofor [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
GGTharos Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 It happens. Is there a reason to drag it out? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Pilotasso Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 (edited) Ive got such a stupid grin in my face right now :D Wags, would you be able to tell which version of the F-16 is being implemented? :) Not yet. Each and every block has a specific cockpit layout, with a few swiches on the dashboard giving away wich one it is (block 40 is easy to spot due to the HUD, wich this isnt the case). I remenber no particular close details in each block but I can tell that its no MLU aircraft. I would aim to vanilla block 50. :) I bet you guys didnt know this, big oops and the cats out of the bag :D Edited July 10, 2008 by Pilotasso .
VMFA117_Poko Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 (edited) On the Russian forum, somebody made a crack that after numerous delays in the project, our faithful flight sim enthusiast children will finally see Black Shark when it is released in 2048, once ED models the manual tire pump and the mechanic that pumps it. :) Actually, it's a little caricature of the situation. Other words he asked: "Does ED have plan what should be done and implemented in first module? Or is the list still growing and number of bugs with it? This way is endless and could be finished after implementing calculations of atoms reactions in the sim." Ofcourse as many here I go for realism - let the oddysse continue :] Edited July 10, 2008 by Poko24

Fine, except in this case you already announced that it would be the V-model. Then the screenshot shows a P-model cockpit, so I was a little curious if the plans had changed. It happens. Is there a reason to drag it out? Look, if we got a answer to clear it up like V, P or "announcing V was premature, we haven't decided yet" then I'm sure we'll all be satisfied with the answer. It's the contradicting information we have now which has started the curiousity. And it's not as if it makes a huge difference, I'm just curious. 1
ED Team Wags Posted July 10, 2008 Author ED Team Posted July 10, 2008 The exact version is still up in the air and changes internally. Perhaps we'll even do a V and P; probably best to just leave it as we'll be doing an Mi-24 for now. Vekkinho Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 (edited) Biggest visual difference (AFAIK) between BLK50 and 52 cockpits is in a RPM gauge! BLK with RPM indicating 110%. BLK 52 - 106% or something like that! There's also a difference in AoA "eyebrow" indicator located left of the HUD. IIRC, on BLK50 entire background gets lit while on a BLK52 only icon lights up (yellow and red arrow + green circle when within 10-13°AoA)! Unfortunatelly the pic Wags posted is a bit too small to tell! Only thing I'm sure about is that it's a newer Falcon (Blk30+) and not the MLU due to different RWR and countermeasure panels! But let's wait and see! Edited July 10, 2008 by Vekkinho [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

I don't know if that pod is classified or not.

EvilBivol-1 Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 (edited) I bet you guys didnt know this, big oops and the cats out of the bagThe question was, "which version of the F-16C is being implemented?", not "which version of the F-16C is pictured in the cockpit screenshots?" ;) The two may turn out not to be one and the same, although, I admit - I am reaching a bit. :) Take what you see in the screenshots as a demontration of some of the work completed so far toward the future. How it will turn out is very much a question of dynamics. Case in point - it was not until just a few weeks a go that ED obtained permission to do the "game" version of the A-10C.
