Hey All, i'm going to make the jump to VR pretty soon, and need advice on which headset is the best. my rig is a Ryzen 5 3600, 2TB SSD, 64 gb of 3200 ram, and i currently have a 1070 srix oc. i will be upgrading to a 2080 TI once the new series of GPU's is launched. hopefully the price of the 2080's will come down. Thanks for your input, and stay safe.

I hear the Valve Index is really good and so is the HP Reverb.. but both need a better card then the 1070..

The Rift S will run on a 1070 , and will permit quite high settings with a 2080 or ti .

@Dburne has a ti and S , so you might pm him .

I didn't see much in the way of price drops for new cards with the last generation change . Quite the opposite in fact , for at least the 1080ti , with many listings charging a substantial premium . I have no idea why .

You would prolly be better off to consider the 30xx , particularly if more vram becomes available , in preparation for Vulcan , which may come during the 30xx life-cycle .

The question is always when something new is coming, not whether.

Is it worth waiting?

A GTX1070 OC wouldn't have to be very short for a smooth game with which reverb is enough, provided you are still on simple missions or training. Single player.

It will be a little short on big missions, but if necessary, until you get a new GPU in a few months, you can set the pixel density to 0.9 ...

I have been using my Rift S since May of last year pretty much every day, for many hours each week. Luxury of being retired.

I love this headset. Easy to set up, tracking is fantastic, no muss no fuss. Works beautifully for me each and every time. And with a little lower refresh rate of 80 Hz, I can run some fairly high graphics settings and still get good performance. I have been tempted to try say a Reverb or Index, but am just not convinced the gain I would get from it would be worth the cost of the device. In addition to combat flight sims, I also play other made for VR games and love those Touch Controllers.

I doubt you would go wrong with whichever device you end up going with.

You might reconsider this later: https://www.amd3d.com/radeon/amd-radeon-big-navi-rx-gamma-flagship-gpu-specs-leaked/

I'm surely waiting for benchmarks of this.

The original source for that article (wccftech) says it was an April Fools joke. Most of those leak articles are just clickbait. Fun to read but you really need to wait till products are actually released to 3rd party testers.

Yeah , 32g of vram doesn't seem very plausible .

32 GB of GDDR7 no less.

That and a 2080 Ti only has 14 tflops. PCIe 5.0 should have been a big red flag too. PCIe 4.0 is on the latest high end AMD motherboards and the new Intel chipset coming out soon is probably still 3.0.

For the record, I hope AMD can put out a flagship GPU at a good price, competition is a good thing, but this was a hoax. I'm not sure if April Fools is a thing in Germany.

I have a Rift s and I can set quite high graphics with my 2070 with good performances. Valve index has got similar resolution with a slightly higher fov and better hand controllers (useless for dcs) but a higher price and external tracking (I prefer inside out tracking since it's easier to set up and does not need external devices) so IMHO the index Is not worth the money. The reverb has got way higher resolution but you need a beefy GPU (you cannot boost graphic settings as high as with a Rift s or an index) and you must use Windows mixed reality, that Is worst than both Oculus software and steam VR. I suggest a reverb only if you plan to buy a 2080ti as soon as possibile.
